Lindy’s Picks BG 4th in MAC East

Post by BGSU33 »

Not much love for the Falcons by Lindy’s. They picked BG 4th in the MAC East, rated the Falcons the #109 team in the nation (8th best in the MAC) and BG’s prediction stated “Going to be tough to avoid third straight losing season.”

Here is the breakdown:

MAC East
1. Ohio (#68)
2. Kent State (#84)
3. Miami (#104)
4. Bowling Green (#109)
5. Buffalo (#112)
6. Akron (#115)
7. Massachusetts (#123)

MAC West
1. Western Michigan (#85)
2. Northern Illinois (#91)
3. Toledo (#95)
4. Ball State (#100)
5. Eastern Michigan (#116)
6. Central Michigan (#117)

Most Valuable Player: Tyler Tettleton, Ohio
Offensive Player of the Year: Brandon Oliver, Buffalo
Defensive Player of the Year: Roosevelt Nix, Kent State
Newcomer of the Year: Jordan Harden, Toledo

Other Notes:

Ohio vs. WMU in the MAC Championship.

None of the 15 MAC games listed as “The Big Ones” involved BG.

Two Falcons were listed in the “Top 10 NFL Talent” listed in #3 Dwayne Woods and #7 Chris Jones.

BG’s MAC selections were: Anthon Samuel (1st Team), BooBoo Gates (1st Team), Chris Jones (1st Team), Dwayne Woods (1st Team) and Brian Schmiedebusch (1st Team).

Schmiedebush was also listed the #6 punter in the country, while Matt Schiltz was listed as the “Strongest Arm” and BooBoo Gates was named the “Special Teams Demon.”

In terms of our non-conference opponents, two teams were listed in the Top-25 in Virginia Tech (#18) and Florida (#20), while Idaho was listed as #102. Rhode Island (FCS) was picked 10th in the CAA.

I looked at that rag the other day. They said we lacked expereince in the secondary and at LB....WTF...I think that was true last year, but we have 10 of 11 starters back on D. I don't think a lack of experience is going to be an issue.

I think a ton of experience is consistently missing at Lindy's magazine ... just sayin ....

And I think Dwayne Woods is a great college football player...but he's too short and light to get a look from the NFL at LB. Jones, OTOH...could play on Sunday. The league seems to be moving away from the blob DT towards guys in that 300-305 range

No way to we lack experience in the secondary and LB...I haven't bought a pre season mag other than Phil Steele's in more than 6 years. None of the others stack up to Phil's. Lindy's is clueless...

Hope the sun rises from the East this morning.

Speaking of Phil Steele, he has been releasing the pages for his top 40 teams. OU came in at 31 so I have read that preview. Of note ... he did not say on this page that OU gets his pick for the MAC East title. He normally includes that in the preview page for his title picks. I'm really trying not to read too much into it but I think Mr Steele might have someone other than Ohio slated to win the MAC East. Given our schedule ... we could be a candidate. That would be pretty nifty.

Phil Steele also picked Ohio to win the East as well, and thinks Ohio will also win the MAC Championship. He actually has BG in a three-way tie for first with Ohio and Miami, but for anyone who has read him over the years, you know how and why he picks "ties" in terms of prediction results (in short, he's actually picking OU first, Miami second and BG third). Here is his exact predictions:

MAC East
1. Ohio
1. Miami
1. Bowling Green
4. Kent State
5. Buffalo
6. Akron
7. Massachusetts

MAC West
1. Western Michigan
2. Northern Illinois
3. Toledo
4. Central Michigan
5. Eastern Michigan
6. Ball State
GO BG!!!
