Farming out ticket sales

Post by Bubba Bo Bob Brain »

Did I miss the memo that told us that the ticket sales operation is changing directions and being farmed out?

I can't see any outside company giving two beans about the loyal fans any more than the ushers at the Stroh do. Remember when the ushers knew us by face if not by name, and knew the section we usually sat in? Remember when we recognized our ushers because usually one of the same two people were assigned to the same section?

Here's a thought: If the university can hire an outside company to take care of the new residence halls because they can do it better than the university can, if the university can hire an outside company to run dining services because they can do it better than the university can, and if the athletic department can hire an outside company to take care of ushering and security because they can do it better than the athletic department can, wouldn't it be logical for the university hire an outside company to run our athletic department?

It's the best of all possible worlds - save money by not having employees of our own AND not having any responsibility for any decisions the outside company makes.

At the very least, shouldn't some of the administrators in the above mentioned areas of the university and athletics take a cut in pay since they don't supervise or schedule as many employees as they used to?

- just talkin' out my ass.

I have not seen that announcement either. When/where did you hear about it? Hopefully it doesn't go the way of food service at games.....

Since maybe I jumped the gun by a couple of weeks and it's one of those 1st of July kinds of things. I don't want my source or confirmation source to get in trouble.

I know - it's only paranoia if they really ARE after you.

Isn't Ticketmaster tied to our season tickets now? I questioned the $5 (I think that is what it was) fee when I renewed my hockey tickets. I was told it was for Ticketmaster, which immediately made me gag. :vom:

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

4B was aware of Ticketmaster's involvement before and that the university had hired an outside firm to do the work fromerly done by Cheryl Henke. If I understand it correctly this time around, employees in the ticket booth / ticket office will no longer be working directly for BGSU.

What this means to us, the general public, I don't know yet.

What it means to some of us is that another university / athletic department position has bit the dust and the university is paying an outside company to run their business. I used to wonder how Subway could make and sell a sandwich for less than the university's dining service could. IF the answer had been higher overhead (i/e the university has to pay the supervisor and the head of the department and the associate vice president and the vice president ...,) then logic tells me that we are not paying our employees too much but that we have too many administrative levels. Somehow having an outside company will save the university money AND provide the university better service than the university can do own its own?

I wonder if it's even an OHIO - based company.

I didn't know that Subway was taking over ticket sales. Now I can get my $5 footlong AND Hockey tickets at the same time. AWESOME!!!!

Sweet, now when I'm working at the FTS I don't have to call Qdoba or Oasis for delivery when I want food, I can just go out into the lobby and order a footlong :-D

BG sells tickets to its sporting events? Who knew? Judging by attendance it's the best kept seceret in NW Ohio.

The university is cracking down on the athletic department because the new faculty union is targeting their budget shortfalls as an excuse to get a raise. Essentially, they are saying that if the athletic department balanced its budget, the faculty could get a raise. The athletic department has eliminated much more than just ushers and ticket sales. They are trimming edges wherever possible.

But apparently we're building a subway? Why do we need a subway? Why not build a monorail like North Haverbrook...
