2012 Olympic Games
So excited for the games this year!!
Women's soccer has advanced to the quarterfinals already. Men's archery lost in the gold medal match to Italy by 1 point.
What is everybody's favorite event in the Olympics?

I always root for the under dog. Even in the olympics.

Re: 2012 Olympic Games
Gymnastics is a favorite.....it takes an unbelievable amount of strength and balance to do what those men and women do. Track and field is very entertaining to. Back in the 70's and 80's TF got covered a lot in the mainstream media....people knew who the US athletes were. Now? I haven't got a clue...
Suprisingly enough...the defending all around woemn's gymanstics champ, Michigan's own Jordyn Wieber, failed to qualify for the all around finals. Apparently, US team is scary good this year

I'm with ya flip. The strength and agility of those gymnasts is simply remarkable.

Love the Games...have for a long time. Great memories watching with my grandparents (supported the USA teams for years financially and traveling to Games). Our family rented an rv in '76 and drove to Montreal for the summer Games.

My favorite events are swimming, diving, volleyball, gymnastics, and soccer.
I do like watching track and field too. And Flip, I can even remember hearing a decent amount about track and field in '04 and '08. I'm with you - I don't even know who our athletes are this year. Haven't heard one word about it.

Women's beach volleyball- worries me that no one else mentioned this. After that Track and Field. Eager to see local guy Kynnard compete in the HJ. But I love all of it, fencing, water polo, hoops, skeet (US gold already), you name it. Oh, I also love the equestrian events. talk about athletes. Horses AND riders. If you're a sports fan this is the best time-AND I got to have it follow right on the tail of the Tour. I rarely watch TV but this summer I've been glued to it every night since the Tour prologue.

Re: 2012 Olympic Games
By the way I can't believe people don't know Alison Felix, Justin Gatlin, Tyson Gay, Jeremy Wariner, Lolo Jones. They've all gotten considerable press and not just in T&F News. Gatlin's return from drug suspension has been huge, Tyson's improvement, Jones because she messed up last time and because she's a hot virgin, Felix because of the 100 meter controversy and because she got a lot of pub when she was in HS and Wariner because he's the fastest white human being. Seriously, these folks have been covered quite a bit in everyday sports pages.

Yeah outside of Wariner I've heard of all those track athletes, especially Gatlin and Gay, remember them from previous competitions (and his suspension for Gatlin)

I've heard of Tyson Gay...Kynard because he's local and appears ready to be a multi-Olympian and I've heard of Jones because she's really good and also a virgin....which you don't often read about.
