The entire stadium minus the section of seats reserved for Buffalo.nwofalconfan wrote:Which sections are considered BG sections? Thanks.

Re: ? about the game at Columbus Crew stadium
Why not? Thanksgiving break so how many people would be at the Doyt that day? Why not give it a shot and see what happens? The UM/osu game is the next day...should be a ton of people in Cbus that day. Some of them could very well be interested in going to the game for something to do the day before. Heck, the drive for me is 20-30 min shorter.Redwingtom wrote:I guess my question is still the same: WHY????

Not to mention that this will pi$$ off about 90% of your season ticket holders, most of whom reside in the Bowling Green area, and we're forced to buy tickets to a game in Columbus, to keep their same seats. ;(. BAD idea!

Re: ? about the game at Columbus Crew stadium
I didn't get season tickets this year, and although the drive to Columbus wasn't a reason for me, I could see how it would be a reason for others. I just couldn't afford them this year with the employment situation of my family right now. However, if I was able to get them, I would be all about watching BG in a new venue. In fact, I may buy single game tickets to that game just to see it.factman wrote:Not to mention that this will pi$$ off about 90% of your season ticket holders, most of whom reside in the Bowling Green area, and we're forced to buy tickets to a game in Columbus, to keep their same seats. ;(. Re: ? about the game at Columbus Crew stadium
I didn't get season tickets this year because the Athletic Department has done a good job making it a chore to actually watch all the games. The Columbus game is a freaking joke as far as I'm concerned and I"d be pretty surprised if there are more than 4000 people there...people in Columbus don't even recognize the MAC as college football, they're not going to this game.
As it would turn out I'm rather enjoying being able to schedule events in the fall without having to check the BG football schedule first. I may not even end up making it to a game this year. They've done a great job at really destroying my interest in the program.

Ah yes. Piss off the season ticket holders. The one's that will be there for a 35 degree game the day after Thanksgiving. Where there would be about 2,500 people.
Last I heard season ticket sales were ahead of where they were last year. I get that some people who live within a 20 minute radius hate the fact they may actually have to drive further than down the street to see a game. But, every single alum I've talked to that lives in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Northern Kentucky has already said they are excited to see this game.
Hell, I've talked to OSU fans who plan on going, going out, grabbing a hotel and then tailgating for the OSU game the next day. The football program and University are trying to market themselves and get some attention in the largest city in Ohio....how dare they.
How has the athletic department made it a chore for you, hammb? Every game is a Saturday with 1 noon kickoff, minus the Columbus game the day after thanksgiving. Which most people would have blown off anyway. The fact you have to drive 2 hours for 1 game is going to turn you off to the program? Sounds like you are looking for a reason to become disinterested in the program.
If BG played 6 night games in a brand new stadium people would be pissing and moaning about ruining Saturday nights and it gets to cold at night in the fall and that the stadium cost to much.

It was just said: marketing. BGSU alums tend not to stay in Bowling Green (I am one of the few). A large portion of alums live in the larger cities south of us, so this all of a sudden becomes an easier game to travel to. Besides, the only other time they would see us is if we played against the Cincinnati Bearcats (doubt that will happen anytime soon) or the Buckeyes (try getting a reasonable ticket to that game). This is our game, tickets aren't outrageous, and you can get a good seat. Plus, we will be drawing people that showed up early for the big border battle. Yes, we sort of become the opening act to the OSU/UM game, but opening acts at concerts gain exposure that way.Redwingtom wrote:I still have the same question: WHY???

Yes.Redwingtom wrote:I still have the same question: WHY???

“With students away from campus for Thanksgiving Break, the Buffalo game became an opportunity for us to take BGSU on the road to one of our most populated alumni areas,” said Athletics Director Greg Christopher. “We view this as more than a football game and truly a university-wide effort and event. The Crew are excited about the partnership and we look forward to the unique event.”

Thanks!
And I get the alumni angle...although the timing of this doesn't lend itself to that much almuni interest IMO, but I don't see us getting any significant interest from those in town for the UM/OSU game. I see those types either saving their money for that game or spending it on paryting in a climate controlled bar.

I live in Toledo and I was thrilled that they are going to Columbus for the game. No one ever shows up for the Thanksgiving game, whether we're winning or not (Remember last time Buffalo came to town with MAC East on the line). This will be so much better, and like FalconFreak said, nothing wrong with bringing the Orange and Brown party down to Urban town.factman wrote:Not to mention that this will pi$$ off about 90% of your season ticket holders, most of whom reside in the Bowling Green area, and we're forced to buy tickets to a game in Columbus, to keep their same seats. ;(. Forgot to mention above, I am also a season ticket holder - have been for last 6 years. Didn't want anyone to think I was just someone who wants a road trip but was not actually invested in the team.

"This will be so much better"
I hope so, but I don't share your optimism.
Another problem...I hope we end up having...is what if this game happens to be for the East title? That could really suck for the loyal fans who can't make the 2+ hour trip.
