I live in Cbus. I likely would have gone to this game any other weekend but will be home for Thanksgiving during this time.

$65-80 can get you a ticket to all 6 homes games. That same money may get you a ticket to one osu game. It is extremely affordable in today's sports world. I have a friend at work flying to Dallas to see the Browns play in November. $50-$75 just to park outside Jerry's World as well as a $135 ticket. Screw that.FortWayneFalcon wrote:BGSU Football (and other sports) are well worth the 1 1/2 hour drive we make to see games. Over Rt.6, between corn fields, dodging deer, it's all worth it. If there's a better value for my entertainment dollar in the region, I haven't seen it.
Can't wait to pick up my season tickets!

I know ya will Freak...I love your attitude about it!Falconfreak90 wrote:And that's where we differ. I couldn't care less about the NFL...except to see how former BG and other MAC players are doing. There is no team loyalty, in most cases, with the players. Gone are the days when guys like Clay Matthews and Ozzie Newsome played all or nearly all of their careers with one team. Most guys look to jump to the next big check. And all the shenanigans on the field make it look like the WWE on turf. As far as comparing to the Browns, I found it ironic you would cut on the BG product while supporting a team that has had one playoff appearance and two winning seasons since 1999...and most of the time they win, what, 4 games? But you are entitled to spend your dollars the way you want and if the Browns fit the bill for you, great. In contrast, I find the college game so much more entertaining and fun...except the BCS level. I love watching Div 2 and Div 3 as well...the kids play their asses off for the love of the game.hammb wrote:Find my complaints weak if you want. I just know that ten years ago I lived and breathed big football and the Mac. It was fun.
The past few seasons have been boring and uninteresting. To compare it to the browns is just laughable...they're terrible but its still the NFL which I find infinitely more entertaining than college football.
Kudos to everyone who still worships the program I wish I could but anymore its just not how I want to spend my time or entertainment dollars.
I can honestly say I will live and breathe BG football til the day I die...the Falcons are MY team and always will be. To each his own...
You're definitely right about the players chasing a paycheck, and everything in the NFL being a business. The thing is, I actually LIKE that it is patently obvious that it's a business and that it's up front about it. With college football I used to be just like you, loving every minute of it, but I've just become disenchanted by it because I really believe that at the root of it D1A college football (the only division I ever really cared about) is no different than the NFL, except it tries to cover it up as being "amateur sports". We have schools covering up obvious cheating to keep winning (and bringing in the dollars), we have a school (and coaching legend) covering up sexual deviants to keep winning (and bringing in the dollars), we have a governing body that ensures that a HUGE percentage of the schools don't get a shot to play for a title (thus ensuring that only SOME schools keep bringing in the dollars).
Now don't get me wrong, I still enjoy watching college football games. I still want BG to win every game and they're still my only real rooting interest at the collegiate level. I definitely don't think the quality of play in the MAC, however, has kept pace with other conferences, and I have always been vocal about my feelings with the schedule. As a result of those things I've lost interest in trying to support the program by going to every single game...every year the number of games I've attended has gone down. Throw in my disillusionment at the whole of NCAA football and I dunno...just not excited about the season anymore.
I still hope to get to a couple games this year, and I still will try to catch as many other games on TV. I'm just not going to go out of my way to attend every game anymore...

I wish I could. The opener was the one game I REALLY wanted to go to, and unfortunately I'm not going to be able to. I am bummed about that one.Falconfreak90 wrote:Well, I hope you make it to as many games as ya can cuz the tailgate scene wouldn't be the same without ya, Hammb! I'll definitely try to get to a game or two...I'll miss the tailgating like crazy!
And I agree that I think we'll be very good this year.

Exactly! If Jerry can earn enough to build that monstrosity and people will fill it at that price, then more power to him.Flipper wrote:Capitalism is an economic system.....not political.Globetrotter wrote:No POLITICS!Redwingtom wrote:All hail capitalism

Not to go off topic...but communism...jk....I have not been to a professional sporting event where I really cared about the outcome (Bengals) in years. Just has no appeal to me anymore. I go to Clippers-Crew and Blue Jacket games and hope Cbus wins but really don't care. I don't see the appeal at all of going to a pro game when I can just watch from home, follow my fantasy teams, turn to the other game, do the laundry etc.

Re: ? about the game at Columbus Crew stadium
I have a very strong emotional tie to the Red Wings, Tigers and Lions...less so the Pistons...which is odd because I was a complete NBA freak going back to the pre-Bird/Magic days. But then..I'm from Michigan, grew up watching Detroit TV and have been a fan of these teams for 40 years. When the Wings won their first cup in 1997...I could barely sleep that night. Same with the Tigers in 1984 (no greater heartache than 2006). I think my head will explode should the Lions ever win the Super Bowl. I'm still not over the Lions 5-0 playoff loss to the Cowboys in 1970...WTF..who loses a playoff game 5-0?
Man...what do people in Cleveland point to? So many teams...so many years...so few titles. It must suck to be from NE Ohio....

I don't find going to NFL games enjoyable. You're going to pay $80 for a ticket, $25+ for parking, food and drink are outrageous, and the games are so choppy. TD. Timeout. Kickoff. Timeout. 5 play series, punt. Timeout. At home at least you can turn the channel to another game. That and NFL games seem to draw, shall we say...a different kind of fan. I would never take anyone under 18 to an NFL game.Globetrotter wrote:Not to go off topic...but communism...jk....I have not been to a professional sporting event where I really cared about the outcome (Bengals) in years. I very much enjoy going to one Browns game a year with a big group of friends as a giant party. We spend Saturday in Cleveland, get up early and tailgate all morning, then watch the game.Falcon137 wrote:I don't find going to NFL games enjoyable. I'm with you though...it's a different kinda fan at NFL games. WE go to get plastered and have a good time, and it appears the rest of the stadium feels the same way. As far as actually watching the game I agree that it's way too choppy with all of the commercial breaks, and I prefer to watch the games from television.
