Any thoughts on the scrimmage?

Date night with Mrs Freak in downtown Cleveland last night so I passed on the scrimmage...(trust me, going to Gainesville is a blessing so I wasn't about to push it LOL). According to Coach Clawson, sounds like both sides of the ball played hard and make plays. Those that were there, what looked good? What still needs work?

One thing I've seen thru camp is a raging hunger...guys are stronger, faster, meaner and chomping (no FLA reference intended) at the bit to get the season here. I'm jacked up...

I did not get to see the scrimmage, but I did get to hear coach talk beforehand. Some stuff sounds impressive. 74 players, 71 lift 1000lbs, 26 lift 1200lbs. Lots of depth at running back. Several reasons to be optimistic.

I can't help but think that the program is at a turning point this year. If the team has spent 4 years rebuilding to emerge average, then I think the Clawson experiment can be called a failure, and he should get one more year to win the conference before he is gone.

However, if coach is right, and the team is on the verge of something big...We should be in good shape. That will mean that Clawson has succeeded in applying a formula that should not only make our team perennial contenders while establishing a record APR score (which will be increasingly necessary in upcoming years), he will have done so in such a way that will not likely draw immediate attention from a BCS school.

It seems that the money schools are only interested in coaches who demonstrate immediate results, even when the results are not consistent or lasting. For some reason, it seems that mid-major coaches have a 2 to 3 year window to get noticed. By that logic, if our team does well this year, we should be good for a while. At least, I hope.

Everything coming out of camp seems extrememly more positive than the past 2 summers. I am excited to see what this team can do and how much they have improved over the 2011 team.

Thanks! Lots of good points in there. I feel we are on the verge of a hell of a run. Coach Clawson talks about building a championship PROGRAM and not just a great year every now and then. The APR scores the last 3 years are the HIGHEST in BG history...that proves to me Coach takes the class work very seriously, as he should. Everything is coming together. The last 2 years were rough but man the present and future look bright. 12 days and counting...

From what I read via John Wagner's update, the defense got the better of the offense. Seems like the starting OL had some issues blocking, but Schilz threw the ball away a lot to avoid any interceptions. If he can do that during games and reduce the number of sacks and INTs, he'll have even a better year number-wise.
