This chant caught on because it doesn't involve trying to be overly clever and doesn't involve trying to cast shame upon the peasants. Besides, he's a jackass because the penalty was generally for some illegal hit against one of our players. Why thank him for playing dirty? Lastly, this chant caught on and stuck because it's fun. You get to yell, as an entire student section, "JACKASS!"

In football, the guy that destroys the QB well after the ball is released is a jackass, even though we got an automatic first down and 15 yards for his bonehead play. This is the hockey equivalent.

You also have to remember that there are not only college students and adults at the games, there are kids too. I remember when I was young, I always wondered what they were saying, but I was told I was not allowed to repeat them. I think it would be fun if even the kids in the arena could chant along with everyone else. Also...some people just don't find it cool to yell bad words, and I don't blame them.

Also, if you do not know...we do not like the weasels...and I don't know why we would chant something we stole from them, it makes no sense. Don't you think we can come up of something original, and wittier than that school?

Keep in mind, as well, that half of the student section is intoxicated by game time. Try to encourage a drunk or buzzed college student to not swear and let me know how it goes.

I understand there are kids at the game. My wife and I brought our nieces to a hockey game (ages 4, 6, and 7 at the time) and we sat in the general admission next to the students. All we did was shout, "C-YA, BYE-BYE, POOPYHEAD!" It actually caught on with some of the people around us, not because poopyhead is witty, but because it was funny compared to yelling jackass (who says poopyhead except little kids?). However, I also knew that by bringing the kids to the game, they may experience some vulgarity (the kid pounding on the glass yelling "F#^* YOU, REF" comes to mind), public drunkeness, and an excellent hockey game. By the way, do you know which chant was their favorite? BG...SU...BG...SU!

Public Intoxication.

I also heard, "C-YA, BYE-BYE, DONKEY!" To make a point, if you are an opposing team fan, and you come into our rink, and hear every section yelling different chants...you are going to laugh at them. Last year, we got out-cheered by the OSU student section in our own rink. They were coordinated, and yelling non vulgar, and not swearing. We still swept them in that series though  I don't you about you, but I am up for the challenge to bring back old time bgsu hockey. I know it will not happen overnight, and I am okay with that.

Way back in the day, this was followed by more. It went something like...

"This is a stick, a what, a stick, a what, a stick, oh a stick"
"This is a puck, a what, a puck, a what, a puck, oh a puck"

And I think there was more but I just can't recall it :(

YES YES YES. Other than the initial you're, It's AND each time. Not You're. This is a huge pet peeve of mine and you are perfectly describing the ORIGINAL cheer! ;)

And sometimes we added "And your mother dresses you funny" at the end of the Terrible-Ugly chant. :D

I would assume a 2+ goal lead with less than a minute to go would be a good time to do that, but not only leading by one goal.

I've seen 2+ goals scored in less than a minute.... I'd want a bigger lead than that!! :-D

How about the Mickey Mouse cheer/song after we have a nice lead (more than 2+ and less than 30 seconds left ;-) ) and had won the Friday night game:
"Now it's time to say good-bye to all our company, M-I-C...See Ya Real Soon (Wave at the opposing team), K-E-Y...WHY? BECAUSE WE SWEPT YOU!! (Sweeping motion, yelling this part REALLY loudly) M-O-U-S-E!!!! (back to singing)"
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

If FF is referring to me, I never, EVER claimed to start that.
