Falling Skies
Nick Saban was on Mike and Mike today and mentioned in a pretty general way that he wished that the top 70 teams would just play eachother because it would make for more parity and better football all around. While my argument would be allowing balanced scheduling, a 16 team conference inclusive tournament, transferring more easily from bowl teams to non-bowl teams and no coaches poll would help parity....what I fear is that it is becoming more and more likely that when the music stops we won't have a chair. What use for us does a team like OSU or Alabama have?

Re: Falling Skies
I see your point re: we could be left out of "the Biggie's" schedules down the road....BUT...I still think there are way too many major conference teams who would like to play us to "get the easy win" so to speak... Schools like Indiana in the B-10 for example, will NEED to schedule MAC or similar teams if they're ever to have a decent record...and that's assuming that they have the talent to beat a MAC team year in and year out. Does OSU need us (or any other MAC school for that matter)? NO...but they still like to build their record AND have an EIGHT home game schedule, which is ridiculous IMO. Take a look at their 1st four games (non-conf.) this year for example...ALL home games against (by their measure) inferior teams....Unless Miami can pull off the huge upset OR Cal comes in and does a number on them...they're almost assured being 4-0 entering conf. play...and I still think one of these years a MAC school is gonna take them down! The conditions need to be right, OSU down a bit and a solid MAC team coming in, but it'll happen. Toledo almost did it most recently, and probably should have.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
Re: Falling Skies
Never happen. Top 70 teams playing each other in the non conference means only 2 home games a year for the Ohio State's and Alabama's of the world = less dollars. If anything more schools are playing MAC level teams, Central HOSTS Michigan State this year, granted it's a 3 for 1. Toledo got a 1 for 1 with Miami, UC, and Missouri. In the coming years BG will have Indiana and Maryland at the Doyt, with Minnesota being here just a few years ago. 2 less buy games a year would be millions of dollars of revenue lost for BCS schools, those schools ADs will never let that happen.
It's the same reason there is a ridiculous number of D1 basketball schools. Duke needs Southern to come in and lose by 40 and Southern needs the $85k check Duke is writing them.

I don't think he can. It's got something to do with a health issue... Wait, right coach, wrong school. Sorry about that.
