Re: No more "Burnt" Orange???
I guess our discussion has made its way up the chain. The topic of "school colors" is addressed in the recent "Ask the AD" segment.

As a spoiler, here is the just of it. Apparently our University has been using two different shades of Orange and two different shades of Brown. One combo was used for athletics and the other for academics. About three years ago the decision was made to merge into one combo that would be used University wide. So the decision was made for one Orange and one Brown three years ago and that is how it stands today. I know some (cough FF cough
) are not happy the shades are Burnt Orange and Seal Brown and I am in TOTAL agreement! However, I am willing to give those who decided it was unacceptable to have two shades of Brown and Orange credit for bringing consistency. We can debate all day about what the shades should be but at least there is only one of each now. I am more upset with the yoyo who allowed there to be two shades of each color in the first place. In my opinion, if blame is to be placed, it needs to be placed there.
Now that there is a single shade of Orange and Brown a campaign to make sure they are the CORRECT shade of Orange and Brown is in order.
Just my two cents on the subject.....

I think going to a "common" color scheme is good, but this thing of incorporating BLACK as a major part is driving me nuts. I know GC has pushed the addition of black for some jerseys, warmups, travel gear etc.

The question of why black is popping up in the color scheme was not addressed. That would make a great question for another segment.

At least to me for all teams in all sports black is almost like the new white, everyone seems to find a way to fit it into schemes some way some how. Just seems to be a new trend from what I've noticed all around sports

So, why did we need two different shades in the first place? What's the point of having "official school colors" if we don't use them for everything????It's the Journey... wrote:Apparently our University has been using two different shades of Orange and two different shades of Brown. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: No more "Burnt" Orange???
Good question FF, but from what I gathered it seems like before the decision to merge into one of each color having two of each color was standard operating procedure for quite a while. Dave Horrager mentions it was the first he had heard of two different colors and he has been around BG for 30 years. So what would indicate the use of two shades or Orange and two shades of Brown pre-dates the current Athletic Director and President by a few years.Falcon Fanatic wrote:So, why did we need two different shades in the first place? Like I said, if blame is going to be placed, I would place it at the door of the people who split the colors in the first place all those years ago.

Re: No more "Burnt" Orange???
Wow! Just goes to show you how wrong I was.
I would have thought for sure that the university had paid a consulting firm to come up with this idea. You know, if you pay a consulting firm to make decisions for you,
a) you're not responsible for the decision
b) if you don't do what the consultants recommended, you aren't getting your money's worth.
