Re: Ryan Autullo
I look at it this way. If he's supposed to now follow UT, he has to write as if he's a UT fan. He bashed UT when he was following BG, and now he's slighting/bashing BG when he's following and writing UT.
ROLL ALONG!!!
Re: Ryan Autullo
I tend to agree with this. If he didn't blow the horn for the Rockets, The Blade would probaly get tons of e-mails about having the BGSU grad covering the Rockets.footballguy51 wrote:I look at it this way. And when did Ryan take over the UT beat? Is that considered a promotion or demotion from the UM beat?

What about Mount Pleasant?hammb wrote:Maybe I'm just defending him because I know him and think he's a pretty nice dude, but I don't think he's bashing BG specifically. Toledo probably IS the best job in the MAC and by population I think it's the biggest market in the conference. I don't think this was meant at a jab solely at BG as much as it was the fact that much of the rest of the MAC plays in small rural communities. Oxford, Muncie, Dekalb, Athens, Bowling Green, and Ypsilanti all fit that definition.
But if it makes ya'll feel better we beat his ass at volleyball last night...
Oh yeah...nuclear waste dump doesn't fit the category of "rural"

Maybe the largest city, but hardly the largest market.hammb wrote: . . . and by population I think it's the biggest market in the conference. ...

I believe he either got is this year or the one before. And I seem to remember him saying on the UT message board that he requested the assignment...but I could be incorrect

Re: Ryan Autullo
The Toledo metro area includes Wood county, so again Toledo splits it's market with BG. I'll ask this again. Does Toledo count the townships that surround it as part of it's population?Lord_Byron wrote:Maybe the largest city, but hardly the largest market.hammb wrote: . . . and by population I think it's the biggest market in the conference. ...

287,208 seems like a big number for the city of Toledo.

Re: Ryan Autullo
I'm not sure Toledo counts its population at all. I suspect, like most places, these numbers reflect the Census conducted by the Feds. Toledo has a large city population surrounded by very few, suburbs that make up the metro area. Dayton 's sprawl goes clear down to Cinci and Akron to Cleveland. Buffalo has several layers of suburbs. Same for Cinci. Get past Perrysburg and there is nothing but cornfields until you hit Findlay. As for the neighborhood around UT, I must agree. Campus bordering dumps like Ottawa Hills and Old Orchard really detract from the atmosphere and are frightening in that there are lots of guys standing around in yards with sharp implements. They're all gardners, but still.......Falcon137 wrote: Also how the hell does Toledo count it's population? It's bigger than Buffalo, almost as big as Cincinnati and twice as big as Dayton? Do they include all of the suburbs that surround it?

You spend enough time kissing ass and soon enough you'll do it because you like the way it tastes..footballguy51 wrote:I look at it this way. I love how H2O brings up Ottawa Hills whenever l mention the blight around UT. Old Orchard was nice...35 years ago...the rest of the area is rapidly declining . Westmoreland is decaying...just about all of Dorr street is a free fire zone. You never mention that. You just cling to that little enclave of crumbling "high end " homes amidst the rubble that is Toledo

Re: Ryan Autullo
It's an aging neighborhood...showing signs of wear...in an obvious downward arc...no longer considered a "prime" location when compared to developments in outlying areas...it is what it is. The inky reasin it isn't Westmorelan already is the fact that it has it's own police force. Someday...Toledo and Lucas county will absorb the whole schmeer as part of a move towards "regionalization" and the ghetto transformation will be complete.
I know it sucks..but your alma mater is in the middle of Detroit circa 1995. No sense in fighting it, just buckle up and watch the slide...

I gotta say this topic seems like a molehill rather than a mountain. Many of the kids recruited to play major college football come from cities. A number of those including 4 great kids that lived on first floor Conklin West with me in 1985 were from the so called 'ghetto' - some of you need to chill on Ryan a bit. Never met him, but always seemed like a good guy when he covered BG.
