What I'll Look for on Saturday is...

Post by Rollo83 »

...our quarterback play. I like Matt Schilz' arm strength and acuracy...when he has time in the pocket. He's woefully slow of foot and has trouble avoiding a rush. He seems to make poor decisions when he has to throw on the run and his acuracy suffers.

So, having said that, its important that we get good offensive line play in front of him. Playing a team as big and fast as Florida right out of the box scares me. I much prefer an Idaho-type opener.

As a red-shirt junior with twenty-two starts under his belt, I would think that experience counts for something? I hope the coaches call some pass plays that allow him to get the ball out of hands quickly. If its third and long on our third offensive play deep in Gator territory after two failed running plays...its going to be a long day in the swamp.

Need to come out throwing on first down and continue to put pressure on them with spread offense....that's an equalizer. Omar and Josh used to run it so well against the BCS schools when they played them. Need that kind of attitude from a playcalling perspective. Who cares if we have a couple of turnovers? We can't win playing it straight up anyway.

Just my two cents...

Matt is the leader of the O now...He reminds me a LOT of Tyler Sheehan. Tyler had a couple eh years to start his career but really came on in his JR year. The O line MUST keep Matt off his back and we need to run the ball. Yeah, I know what the Gator D is all about but dammit, we have some serious talent at RB on this team. Matt is working with, basically, an entirely new WR corps, outside of Joplin. I can't wait to see Je'Ron Stokes & Chris Gallon...Heath Jackson is another one who can step up. Ryan Burbrink, keep an eye on him. He reminds me some of Kurt Gerling. Doesn't look all that but didn't take crap from anyone and played like a man posessed.

Play to win and throw everything at Florida? Sure, why not? I like taking on a Top #25 team in week 1. ANYTHING can happen on the first weekend and that's what makes this a dangerous game for the Gators. IF our D can contain the FLA O, more often than not, we have a good chance. They said they'll be playing both QB's so I expect the Gator O to make some mistakes. Our D has the right mentality these days. I'm stoked to see how our D plays in '12...I think it's gonna be a strong unit and we haven't had a unit this good since 2000-3.

The snowball effect is always a concern in games like this...WVU last year. No mistakes...gotta play the cleanest, most physical game you can cuz the Gators are gonna be physical. SEC football...GO FALCONS!!!!!! Less than 7 full days. LOL

I agree with you mostly but it was a lot easier for Harris and Jacobs because they played in the infancy of the spread. Now just about all players saw the spread in high school and just about every team runs several plays out of the spread in college. It's not the equalizer it use to be. I think we will be great at Wide Receiver this year because I think that is the easiest position to reload at in a spread offense, and the guys we have moving in their seem more talented than the last 2 seasons. I am worried though about most of these players debut being in the swamp. Bayer and Joplin need to come up big early on and show the younger guys the location doesn't matter. We can't drop passes and we still need to be able to move the ball on the ground some.

Hopefully we continue to see the Florida offense that struggled most of 2011 but they definitely upgraded with Brent Pease calling plays.

... solid tackling by the D. With the exception of a few games the D played far better in this department in 2011 than in 2010. Improve here, improve with run defense, and we've got the MAC east's best D.

Redhawks are playing OSU just like I want the Falcons to play Florida. No fear. Go 5 wide right out of the gate. Don't mess around witrh trying to lineup and run the ball at them on first and second down.

The spread is an equalizer and Maimi has Buckeye defenders on their heels.

Something interesting I found while researching the game is Boise St.'s former OC is now at Florida. Wonder what the UF offense will look like.

Mike,
You were spot on re: Ryan Burbrink....even with his fumbled punt late in the game...he, along with Chris Gallon, CATCHES the damn ball! (Can you read, Mr. Joplin?)....I'm not unhappy about this game...Disappointed yes, but not unhappy...We came to play and matched up pretty well with a SEC power. Speed killls and their TD's were all based on guys flat out outrunning our D, with no one touching them. (actually HIM). And we seemed to come out of the game with no major injuries
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
