If Wright State wants me to hate 'em, I'll hate 'em

Wright St. is hoping we'll be a rival since Miami is running scared. There's some interesting stuff in that piece about how Miami is changing their scheduling philosophy. The new coach is in favor of a much softer sked (thus they'll stop playing Wright St.) to help their RPI. Although it's hard to imagine them playing a tougher schedule than Charlie Coles would line up, the new guy wants more cupcakes served in their dismal gym.

This RPI logic is ack basswards.

Miami has been able to post some strong RPI rankings because of their tough schedule. When you play the 200+s, you have to completely destroy them to get an RPI boost. Beating Northern Illinois by 15 hurts a good teams RPI, not helps.

Thanks Miami. If we can get Wright State on the schedule every year it would be a nice Home and Home. Short trip (good for the budget) and a return home game the next year. I think Ohio Mid-Majors should have some sort of informal or formal agreement to do more of these contracts vs. scheduling NAIA and Division III schools so you can have a couple of home non-conference games. A bad Mid-Major(not saying Wright State is bad) has got to be better for the RPI than a NAIA or Division II/III school.

Margin of victor doesn't factor in to RPI.

And games against non-DI schools do not factor into RPI either. So, technically, a game against a bad mid-major does hurt the RPI more than a game against a DII since those contests are not considered at all.
