New feature coming up!
I'm excited to let you know that we are going to start up a new feature here on Ay Zig in the upcoming weeks. BG's Athletic Communications department has given us the go ahead to interview student athletes during their weekly practices. My goal is to get all of us a bit closer to the game with a direct Q&A session between you and our athletes. We are a bit late to get this rolling for this week, but I'm hoping to get something going for the Toledo game.
Here's where you come in:
1. Post a question you've been wanting to ask the players in this thread. It can be funny/off the wall or drop dead serious. It doesn't really matter to me. For now, let's keep it general since we haven't finalized the interview schedules as of yet.
2. I will try to pick out the best five or so and send them out to whoever is doing the interview
3. On Thursday or Friday, the Q&A sessions will be posted in the blog section of the website.
Any questions left over will be rolled into the pool for the next week.
Sounds fun? I thought so.

Excellent! I always love the features that let student-athletes' personalities show through. I think we've all learned throughout the years that we have some great men and women representing BGSU, it's cool that we'll get to learn more.
(Nice first blog post, too, BTW... only wish your brown and orange hunch was a little more right!

Awesome! Any deeper connection we can get with the players is always welcomed.

My question to any particular player:
Do you or your fellow athletes follow AZZ.com? What is your impression of the site?

Does this question come with a custom worm-can opener?FortWayneFalcon wrote:My question to any particular player:

We know the parents scan the site, we know the previous coach's wife and probably coach did also, so it is safe to assume the tech minded kids do as well. Not sure I want to go down the path of finding out what they think of us

There's nothing like a good can of worms. Maybe we could also interview some verbal commits.
I defer to those of you with a better understanding of our journalistic responsibilities as a booster organization to keep the worms in the can.
I do seriously like the idea. It would likely develop some interesting site conversations.

Not sure on this, but I doubt if we're "allowed" to interview verbals.... has to be some NCAA rule against this....might NOT be a violation to print out some biographical stuff on them if we can get it legitimately.

Please - No inviting any of them to join us at a tailgate for a hotdog.FortWayneFalcon wrote:There's nothing like a good can of worms. Maybe we could also interview some verbal commits.

The coaches are not allowed to speak about a "verbal" commit until the student has signed his National Letter of Intent. I've seen where Bucknuts and some other fan sites have had Q&A's with commits (not sure if those were soft verbals or NLI-signed commits.Class of 61 wrote: Not sure on this, but I doubt if we're "allowed" to interview verbals.... has to be some NCAA rule against this....might NOT be a violation to print out some biographical stuff on them if we can get it legitimately.

Re: New feature coming up!
There are rules governing contact between people affiliated with a University within "dead" and "quiet" periods. not sure who the NCAA would consider to be a person who's affilaited with a University and I'm too lazy to go and research it. Q & A's with current student athletes does sound really interesting.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: New feature coming up!
I know many of the "fan" sites are considered the same as a news site and are therefore exempt from those type of rules. I have no idea what determines what you ca and cannot do.

Question for an upperclassmen:
What have you done in the offseason differently to prepare for the 2012 season? Any noticeable differences as a team to past years?
Would you rather play Toledo early in the season or late in the season and why?
