Lindy's picks BG to finish....wait for it....wait for it....

Post by BGSU33 »

.....last in the MAC East! This has to be, what, about ten consecutive years of watching every preseason magazine pick us dead last in our division and seeing us do our best to prove those predictions correct at the end of the season with the exception of a year or two? It must be a tough job for the editors making sure they sort through the order of the other five teams in the MAC East above us each year too. Yes, I know they are predictions and mean nothing. Case in point, we actually finished 5th in the MAC East last year and not last, and then we turned around and crapped the bed in the MAC Tournament first round. Something somewhat of a surprise though was the preseason All-Conference team omission of James Erger. Yes, puzzling I know, but clearly an oversight, obviously.

So let the season begin! Let’s start the count on how many times we hear Louis Orr talk about the team “persevering.” Let’s watching Luke Krause ball-fake with no threat of scoring. Let’s add another year to our NCAA drought since 1968. And most of all - my favorite part – let’s watch James Erger log quality minutes! I can hardly wait!

We have a great schedule, a terrific building and a lousy program. Pretty sure you need all three.

I am not surprised. This is what BG Basketball has become. A .500 season is accepted as a good season. On a positive note, the roster and staff show little turnover these days. In other words, no big programs want the assistants, and no player has been made uncomfortable enough to leave.

No surprise. Our top two returning scorers are extremely inconsistent and horrible decision makers with the ball. If either one of them shoots better than 40% from the field, I'll be surprised. Our most gifted athletes, Clarke and Sealey, inexplicable sat most of last year. Our two recruits' next best choices were were RPI 300+ programs.

The program is dead. Nothing to see here. Move along.

No doubt about it this program is in the shitter. And it shouldn't be. We have the best building in the conference and until about 10 years ago were a pretty damn good MAC hoops program. Now we're a freaking joke.

Louis Orr has done NOTHING to keep his job. Last year was supposed to be his year with his recruits hitting senior status, new building, good mix of youth/vets, and they go out and crap the bed.

The only returners who have done anything are a selfish, me-first PG who cannot create offense for anybody but himself (and his jumpshot sucks), and a headcase PF who should be an All-MAC player but can't seem to figure it out under a coaching staff that is still waiting to figure out what it means to develop a player.

Yep...I laugh when I see the occasional story saying Dave Clawson could be in trouble here at BGSU. If the length of rope Louis Orr has gotten is any indication, Clawson could go 5-7 for the next three years and still be employed.

Another failure for Orr, BGHS star Vitto Brown is reportedly going to Wisconsin.

Clarke is a more 'gifted athlete' than Calhoun? Wow.

I'm no fan of Coach Orr, but how can you call him a failure because a kid picked a Big 10 scholarship offer over staying home and playing for a crappy team?

I think the point is the kid could have grown-up in Athens and made the same decision. Playing Big 72,000 basketball is more prestigious and has higher chances of winning it all.

Here is my question? Did Wisconsin recruit his brother , Xavier?

I have been told by more than one person "in the know", that Vito was not interested in BG because we did not recruit his brother (nor should we have). I guess Xavier must have turned down Wisconsin and gone to Wooster!!! ;) If I were Coach Orr, I would not want that "situation" on my team either. Sometimes it is just better for a player to go away from home.......and in this case I think it is.

Yeah..I love BG as much as the next guy (so long as that next guy isn't the freak) but if I was given a choice between a full ride to a B1G hoops school and the MAC..I'm going to the B1G.

I had heard the same thing about Vitto having no interest in BG because of Orr not recruiting Xavier at all. And I agree that Xavier is a Div II/III talent. He did average 13 points per game last season as a freshman for Wooster. By the same token, I always thought Chauncey was a Div II/III player but he somehow ended up with a scholarship to BG.

If I follow your thought process correctly here, you dissed Orr for not being able to get Vitto. Then you complimented Orr for not recruiting his brother Xavier. And followed that up by saying you wouldn't have wanted the issues that Vitto might have brought. Which to me means you are happy that Orr didn't get Vitto. So what are you bitchin' about?
