New OC or new HC
New OC or new HC
I think that the time has come (or rather past) for a decision to be made. Clawson needs to decide how badly he wants to stay the head coach at bgsu. Furthermore, he needs to decide how much he wants to save the careers of his staff, of whom a believe are mostly good choices.
Today's crap-storm aside, I still believe that Clawson's staff have radically improved our defense. The stats may not support this opinion, but I believe (for the most part) that our defense would be one of (if not THE) best defenses in the MAC if our offense didn't keep them on the field for as much as they do.
Bottom line, our games haven't been close enough to blame our losses on kicking.
In the end, I firmly believe that our lackluster performances have been a result of our offense failing to move the ball effectively. Strange part, aside from some dumb drops, they looked okay against Florida. However, the next two defenses our offense saw were bad....epicly bad. I expected nothing against VT. But our offense should have jacked up points against Idaho and Toledo. Those two defenses are terrible.
What's more, I believe the players are there. This only leaves one solution.
It is more than his APR score. I like Clawson's defense, his recruiting, and his handling of off the field issues. And I firmly believe that a productive offense would have this team ranked. Heck, our kickers might even look better if they had a chance to work out their rookie jitters in games that didn't put so much pressure on them.
However, if Clawson doesn't do something about the inept play of this offense, and quick, he might have a new head coach doing it for him.

Nothing is going to change, so its all wishful thinking. The end of the season results will dictate what happens next year, I don't expect any mid-season changes with the staff. Its been four games and no adjustments have been done, so why will anything change going forward?mmisbg wrote:I think that the time has come (or rather past) for a decision to be made. How about we evaluate our team and staff when we play MAC competition. New QB's, new coaches and a new system is a little bit ridiculous after playing probably one of the hardest schedules in country in September. If we played mediocre teams and had a better record, would every be freaking out?
Re: New OC or new HC
We have played MAC competition. UT made us look bad. Inexcusable for the amount of starters we have returning. We struggled to beat an awful Idaho team. VT should beat us but not like this. I would like to be wrong but I have seen enough of this crap.BGSUFanatic7 wrote:How about we evaluate our team and staff when we play MAC competition. For all the hype we heard to begin the season, this is an excuse. This team has regressed since the Florida game.BGSUFanatic7 wrote:How about we evaluate our team and staff when we play MAC competition. We will see. I understand what everyone is saying. And yes we looked absolutely awful today. But the fact is, we are not as good as Toledo, Florida or Va Tech. I won't say anything for a while because I can understand all of the frustration. I am just trying to look at it with a realistic outlook. I'll see if the mood changes when we win our next 5 games.

We looked entirely incompetent in every area today. It didnt matter who we played. every week we hear about waiting to pass judgement. This team is awful.BGSUFanatic7 wrote:How about we evaluate our team and staff when we play MAC competition. There is nothing to indicate that we can play with anyone in the MAC.BGSUFanatic7 wrote:We will see. I understand what everyone is saying. And yes we looked absolutely awful today. CMU!
Re: New OC or new HC
This is a big issue that goes back to the previous regime as well. Our first game tends to be one of our best games year. Purdue (2003, tossing out the I-AA before it), Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pitt, Troy (x2), Idaho, and Florida. We tend to start of the season looking like a solid team and regress into an average to below average team.jpfalcon09 wrote:For all the hype we heard to begin the season, this is an excuse. He's not going anywhere because that's not how we roll, but he had hit chance this year to prove it to me and he has failed miserably over the first 1/3 of the season. We better be able to beat Rhode Island.
Re: New OC or new HC
Clawson needs to take over playcalling. And maybe Johnson starts next week.

This team will struggle to win 6 games.
Re: New OC or new HC
I understand that's not how we roll, but this time might be different. The reason I say is because I doubt that the individuals who bankrolled the firing of Brandon did it so that we could become the Cleveland Browns. Perpetually next year's team, defense good enough but offense doesn't stretch the field, fans constantly calling for the backup quarterback, etc.

Re: New OC or new HC
Plain and simple, the same issues week to week aren't being fixed. Its the coaches responsibility to fix that and put the players in a position to succeed. If the talent isn't good enough, then Clawson sure as hell can talk up a bunch of mediocre players like they're all all-stars.mmisbg wrote:I understand that's not how we roll, but this time might be different.
