They are an FCS school and are currently 0-3. They have been beaten by 35, 21 and 25 by other FCS schools. They have played good FCS teams but if we struggle on offense this week...

Nice scheduling! What a way to reward alums that only make it back for one game a year. This might be the first homecoming game I miss in over 30 year.

Most alumni - including me - will just be happy with a homecoming win .. Which would be unique.

BG needs to take out two weeks of frustration on RI. At the rate we're going, we have to take it one week at a time.

I can't wait for homecoming! I intend to never miss a BG homecoming game.

I agree with factman - I like playing someone from the MAC for homecoming games, so, I'm not digging playing Rhode Island.

Either way, I'll be there: Flying in from Colorado, renting a car, marching around with a bass drum, drinking at the bars, then flying back early Sunday.

Should be fun. :drinkers: :supz:

I don't think we'd be complaining about the Homecoming game if the team was 3-1 or 4-0 and rolling. The current record and product on the field has us thinking its stupid to schedule this as the HC game. I have no problem with it, most HC games should be blowouts anyway.

He said he was going to march around with a bass drum. I don't think he said anything about an alumni band.

Exactly!!! We're 0 for our last 4 on homecoming. Gotta break that hex.

Then we'll worry about breaking the Family Weekend Jinx...if you think we're bad on homecoming, we're 0 for our last 7 on Family Weekend!!!

And how many of those family weekend games have been rather ... unusual?

05 ... Jacobs gets injured. Otherwise we win, but the team tanks.
06 ... a huge chunk of our starters, including some really key guys, were gone due to injury. Oddly enough, a field goal is what keeps us from getting shut out at home.
07 ... our only home loss. Previous week Geter rushes for 200+ on top conference rushing defense KSU but gets contained by among the bottom defenses in Ohio.
08 ... Miami Whammy gives that team their only FBS win of the season. Painful.
09 ... We move the ball all day on CMU but can't score.
10 ... a fluky kickoff return for a touchdown involving the whole let-the-guy-sit-on-me-and-call-it-a-tackle prevents the shutout by KSU.
11 ... blocked XP at the end of the game after a 90 yard drive in just seconds seals the game for Wyoming.

Of course, the homecoming jinx has been just about as unusual, capped by the 2010 UB game where both teams seemed to be interested in losing ...

Oh man, that 2005 game was bad. That game cost us a conference championship. Akron won the division on a tiebreaker that year because they caught us the next week after the WMU game. Had Jacobs been able to play we would've killed Akron that day.

2008 was just pathetic. Miami was horrible and they still managed to beat us. That 2008 team was maddening, they had some really well played games but some of the biggest clunkers you could imagine against Miami and Eastern Michigan, not to mention the epic meltdown late against Buffalo.

Speaking of that 2008 game against Eastern Michigan, that was the first game of the current Homecoming hex. Ohio was our homecoming opponent in 09, and that was actually a really good, important game between the 2 best teams in the division. Had we won that one we would've gone to Detroit that year, and we were a crazy tipped pass on 4th down in the endzone away from forcing overtime. As you mentioned, the 2010 game vs Buffalo was simply unwatchable as both teams tried to give the game away on multiple occasions. Last year we faced Toledo on homecoming and the game was tight all the way, resulting in a 1-score victory for UT.

So yeah, homecoming has been a bit of a mixed bag between well played games and bad ones. Family weekend on the other hand, I don't think you can make a claim that we played well in any of those games, except perhaps for the game against CMU.
