2003 MACC Replay

Post by jpfalcon09 »

ESPN Classic will be showing the BG/Miami MAC Title Game at 2pm EDT on Oct. 9th. Even know BG lost, would be cool to be able to watch that talented team once again.

Thanks, setting that to record. Was still a fun game and it was still interesting at the end of the first half. We sat behind the MU bench and terrorized their fans and players

Although nowhere near as frigid as that year's Cribbs errr Kent game, the MACC game was still pretty chilly.

That Kent game was BRUTAL. The temps weren't as bad as the MACC or the UT game, but the mist just chilled you down to the bone. I kept buying coffee fron the concessions, by the third qtr it was just lukewarm brownish liquid. I think they were cutting pepsi with water and microwaving it... :)

Oh sophmore year when life was good. I just wish I had a copy of the 2005 Wisconsin game. Most entertaining game I've ever been to.

Oh man...I think I have this game on DVD already...not sure I can stomach watching it again. The rapist lit us up that day.

The 2003 Miami & BG teams were probably my 2 favorite MAC teams to watch ever, though. MAC football was awesome back then...

That was the most painful game I have ever watched in person and it was because of the outcome, rather than the cold - which was in itself, rather brutal. That '03 Miami team is probably the only team in recent MAC history that was clearly better than our '03 team. It just sucks that their best year happened to coincide with ours and they were just better, as much as it pains me to say it.

As for brutal cold games, several others come to mind but I don't think any were worse than the 11/23/02 Eastern Michigan game. That was a night game with the wind howling and before the game they had to plow the snow off the field, piling it up around the endzones. I was one of what appeared to be 9 people in the stadium that night. At least it was a dry cold. Any of the 14 people who were in attendance for the 11/15/06 Miami game will never forget that miserable night. I sat in the 42 degree sideways rain for 3 hours, just to watch us lose to Miami on a missed field goal in the quagmire that once was our natural grass field.........and on my birthday, no less! :(

That was a miserable game. That was where the Athletic Department stuck the FMB on the visitors side so the stands would appear "full" for ESPN. Stupid. I'm still amazed that none of us got stuck in the mud while marching in that quagmire.

Welcome to the board Beaker.

Yea it is crazy to think that three of the best (or pretty close to it) Mac teams of the last 20 years were all from 2003. NIU was also awesome that year. 10-2 and beat 3 BCS teams. That was before there were too many bowls so unfortunately they did not get to beat a fourth BCS team in a bowl game. Toledo was good too.

And yes that EMU game is the only football game I have ever left early

That EMU game was rough.....I remember seeing a guy climbing up the stands with an oxygen tank. I don't think I would have bothered to haul an oxygen tank around to see EMU.

Kent State in 2003 was my first BG game as a high school senior. Friggin' freezing. And my last game as a student was 2008 against Buffalo. Friggin' freezing-er.

Sat through every minute of that EMU game, but it was the one game that year that we didn't tailgate for. We sat at Frickers and only headed over in time for the kickoff.

Sat through every minute of that '03 KSU game, and that '03 Miami game. The weather was brutal for both of them.

Thankfully I was traveling so I missed the Miami Mud Bowl, but I was in Vegas so I watched it from a sportsbook.

I think the coldest game I ever saw live was the 2000 UT game. The last game of the Blackney era. The first game of the Josh Harris era (kinda). It was as bad of an ass kicking as you'll see, but I stayed for the end just so I could see us score a meaningless TD...

THAT was the coldest game I EVER went to!!! And we stayed to the end too. Couldn't feel our feet or hands. BRUTAL wind chill. Vowed I'd never, EVER go back...but I lied, obviously.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Yeah, Blackney's last game was rough...but I think Urban's final home game against EMU was the worst

I vote EMU in 2002...simply cold as hell. We pancaked them, 63-21.
