Miguel Cabrera is a baseball demi-God!!!
I think the first Triple Crown since 1967 deserves its own thread....
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Actually Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973.

I never thought I'd get to see a triple crown in my lifetime.
And then when it finally does happen it's my favorite player on my favorite team. HELL to the YEAH.
Dude is just simply the best hitter in baseball, and for whatever reason NEVER gets discussed as such. Hell even as he just went out and won the first triple crown in 45 years he STILL isn't getting talked about...he's not even a lock for the MVP (which I'm okay with, Trout or Miggy it's a coin toss to me). Just nuts.
All I know is that he's the best hitter I've ever seen in a Detroit uniform and I freaking LOVE watching him play everyday. And when I'm old I expect a statue of him at Comerica.

As Colin Cowherd disussed this morning, it's just three baseball statistics. No one gives a damn about basebal stats anymore. The steroid era ruined that. That is why no one is talking about this.

Cowherd is a troll. If this was cheapened due to steroids, why did no one win it during the "steroid era"? It's impressive, and I never thought I'd see another one in my lifetime.Warthog wrote:As Colin Cowherd disussed this morning, it's just three baseball statistics. The bigger question that should be asked is:
Why is this man smiling?

If anything, it's almost more impressive to have an all-around player in this day and age. Baseball, like so many other sports, has shifted where you have players that are good in many categories, but only excel in one or two. To have someone lead in all three is very big accomplishment. My hat's off to Cabrera on this one.
As for why people don't seem to be talking about it as much, I figure it has more to do with waning baseball interest in general than any particular era ruining public perception of statistical achievements.

Not sure why you feel no one is talking about this, but they certainly are in the baseball world and they have been for the last few weeks.
The MLB TV channel has been covering all his at bats down the stretch. ESPN has been running his name and stats on the bottom ticker the better part of the last two weeks of the year when it became apparent he could actually do it.
There have been numerous articles by the baseball writers about the MVP and they always discuss the triple crown aspect of it.
ESPN had tons of coverage on it last night as well.
What I don't understand all the sudden is this steriods talk. There has never been indication one that Cabrera has been on anything that I have ever heard...and suddenly now it is being talked about? WTF??
And I have to say, biggest props go to the Kansas City crowd last night. I got goose bumps watching them show the respect they did to him!
Oh...and one more thing. I've heard numerous stories from other managers like Yost in KC and players like Konerko in Chicaco who have called him the best hitter in baseball. Trust me, he's getting all the accolades he deserves. Certainly more than what he is comfortable receiving. He's not that type of 'Look-at-me" player that nobody can stand.

Yeah...I really don't get the whole PED angle here....Miggy has never been a guy suspected of using gear and this is the era of the drug test, so if he was...we'd know. I also don't see how Bonds and the other steroid guys from the 90's have any bearing on this achievement. It's not that any one stat jumps out at you like 70 HR's...it's the fact that he has the ability to hit for average and power...as a RH batter with zero speed.

I live in a state with zero professional sports teams, and the talk shows here have still given it plenty of air time lately.
I use to love watching baseball growing up but my interest in watching the MLB anymore is pretty much nonexistent.

Hit a baseball every 3 of 10 at bats and people think you're great, but win 3 of 10 games and those same people think you suck.
