Akron Game Thread

Post by bgdodgeball4 »

Any thoughts on this one?

I think last week was the spark we needed to turn the season around. Well that, and it's the start of the favorable part of our schedule:
@ Akron
vs. Miami
@ UMass
vs. EMU
Toughest game being Miami at home.

I feel pretty confident about this week. Akron is improving each week, but they've yet to beat an FBS team. I think we go out and take care of business.. I can't see them stopping our run game and last week helped take some pressure off of Schilz.

IMO, there is one way and one way only in which Akron beats us...and that's if we are super conservative on offense, allowing Akron to outscore us. We have to be aggressive with the offensive playcalling and attack Akron's awful defense until they are blue in the face. Failure to do this, and we're in trouble.

Regarding the schedule, BG should be favored to win every single one of those games, and realistically to go to Detroit, we're going to need to do just that. I suppose we could drop 1 and not be out of it, but with the biggest division threats waiting in November, BG can't afford to fall behind.

Agreed...we *should* be able to move the ball all day on the UA D. They've given up over 1,300 yards of offense the last two weeks, including 705 to Miami. But we really gotta watch their offense...they are very explosive.

As far as the rest of the schedule? I'm looking at Akron, only. One week at a time....

To win, a few keys ... force some turnovers, control the clock on offense, and score a lot.

Must score more points than Akron if we're going to win.

It's that simple.

I think all four of these games are "must-win" games for us. After the tough start to our schedule and a decent stretch to close it out, this is the meat of the schedule that will either make or break our season. If we win these four games, we'll become bowl eligible and stay in the MAC East hunt. If we get tripped up in any of them, it would severely damage our hopes at a MACC game appearance and puts a much stronger emphasis on the last three games. I think most of us would agree when the schedule came out and we were assessing our team that we thought we should or would need to win these games, and I think the same can be said right now.

+1

This is the stretch where we finally find out if we're good, just mediocre, or bad.

This game worries me, still not 100% confident in the secondary being able enough to thwart a good passing game. The DL is going to need to generate a good pass rush against Williams and hopefully force Akron out of their offense a little bit. BG needs to hold onto the ball on offense as well. String out long drives and eat up clock, Akron will have a greater chance to win if this game turns into a shootout. Lastly, give Samuel the ball as much as possible. He's your playmaker and gamechanger.

I'll just put other MAC games in this thread instead of starting a new one...

Buffalo- 14 Ohio- 0

Boy OU's defense looks horrible. Buffalo 100+ yards rushing in the 1st quarter and then goes play action and has 2 wide open receivers for a TD.

I'm thinking of starting an online donation to get these announcers to shut up. Anyone else in?

I was going to say something along those lines, but it's just comical how stupid they are.

Good job D. O has to score because at some point Akron will finally finish these drives.
