OK post game thoughts ..

Does Clawson or Ruggiero read this board? If so, I think I'm owed Ruggiero's salary for the week. Or ... if Clawson wants a new offensive coordinator, I bring a wealth of experience as a fraternity QB and offensive coordinator and many national championships in NCAA football for PS2.
OK, Ok, I jest ... great, great, great adjustments. BG has a power running game and tight ends? Is this 1970's BG again? LOVE IT!
Defense is outstanding. Possibly best in the conference. When the offense gives them time to breathe, our defense is absolutely outstanding.
If our O line and our defense play that well in every game, we beat everybody left on our schedule.
For years .. O line has been the problem. Couldn't pass block well in previous years, couldn't run block at all in 09 and 10, so for the O line to take over a game, that must be a ton of frustration being taken out.
Schilz is far more effective with a great running game. No doubt there.
Our D at one point late in the game held Akron to 1 yard in the second half. That f-in rocks!
If the team that we saw in the second half plays in all games from here on out, we'll be just fine. Offensive line can beat the tar out of defenses, the run game should be outstanding, and the passing game will hopefully continue to progress.

And finally ... fans ... support your team! Look over the first couple pages of this thread. Are you proud of your posts there? Seriously?

GO FALCONS!!

I'll give credit when credit is due. Great halftime adjustments. Pretty frustrating during the first half... but man, oh man...what a change.

Clawson showed me good coaching and great game adjustments. I'm a very happy alumnus right now and exceedingly happy for the players and staff.

Just got back from the game. What the hell was that first half? Both coaching and quarterback play was flat out awful.

Schiltz couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and the coaches insisted on calling pass plays on every down instead of running the ball. Schiltz had plenty of chances to slide in the pocket and make plays down the field to wide open receivers and failed to.

Finally came to their senses in the second half. Lucky it was Akron because that kind of first half will get you beat by most teams.

Give Terry Bowden time to recruit and he will be a handful in this league with that offense.

I hope we never see that 1st half game plan ever again. The dink and dunk passes need to end, and we need to focus on being a running team first from here on out. Schilz isn't the type of QB who you can put the game on, he needs the running game to help relax him and make the play action game happen. BG has the deepest stable of RBs in the MAC and the team needs to start using them more.

Great adjustments at half, the team was fired up and the OL loved being able to line up and punch the DL in the mouth. Hopefully the offense has found their identity and can keep this going into Miami and beyond.

Game ball to the defense, was absolutely lights out all game. That fumble in the 2nd quarter was a HUGE play, going down 17-0 at half would have been a whole different story. Kudos to them for the intensity shown all game.

Nice to see us go on the road and just physically stomp the hell out of another MAC school on both sides of the ball. Hopefully, we'll build on it next week.

Agreed. It was really fun at the game yesterday. This staff showed that we will make good adjustments and the players showed they have the heart and capability to come from behind and play with style.

Time to get ready to tar and feather the birds down south.

Sorry, but one half of football did not solve this teams issues.

Thankfully we were only playing Akron.

I need to see more before I change my opinion.

Can't disagree more (except for the Beat Miami). People in game threads treat this like they are sitting at a bar with their buddies or at a game with friends. Nothing posted on here during the 1st half wouldn't have been said by friends sitting together.

The sky was falling in the first half, they were playing one of the worst teams in college football and looked flat out bad. It was reasonable for people to question what was going on and the direction of the offense after what we had seen the previous 5 games. Myself and others posted their reactions on here in real time as we were watching the game because, at least myself and I'm assuming others were watching the game by themselves in front of a computer screen.

It doesn't make people bad fans to wonder WTF was going on with Schilz, the playcalling, and the amount of penalties in the first half. Most of the penalties were dumb ones, false starts, roughing the punter. Those are just mental mistakes and makes a team look like they are unfocused.

The 2nd half was completely different, there was maybe 1 false start and no penalties on the defense that I can remember. This game was very similar to the Toledo game where they seemingly came out flat in the 1st half and turned it on in the 2nd half.

I'm very encouraged by what happened in the 2nd half, mostly by the offense. I think the 2nd half showed how good this defense can be when they aren't constantly forced to get back on the field after multiple 3 and outs and are gassed toward the ends of the half and game. But, like Redwing said, 1 game doesn't fix everything that's wrong. Hopefully they stick with this power running attack and mix in play action and keep throwing to the tightend.

The point may have been that 3-5 negative posts in a row, without even a comment from someone else might be a tad "overdoing" it, and then doing more!

We care, and we want the team to succeed, and they are better than what they showed in the first half so I think those posts are warranted. The threads are a place for us to vent as much as discuss the game. I'd rather be over critical of the team I care about, than sit back and accept mediocrity and not care about poor results.
