Sorry, but that's sad. It's akin to saying everything 'sucks' because you don't have another appropriate word in your lexicon.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:Go to other colleges and see a hockey game. Times are changing and cheers are getting more vulgar. Plus, the "Jack-ass" chant has been around a few years, its not like all of a sudden we started going it. Maybe not the most creative thing, but its catchy and the students like it.

We are trying to bring some things back, but the "Jack-ass" chant is one thing that the students like. Bringing back the older stuff may take a while, but a few of us current students are working on it. I hear so much about how hockey fans were crazy and everyone hated playing in our building. Well the student section can't do all of the cheering on our own. Can we get a little support from eveyone else that goes to the games? I don't care if you don't want to say "Jack-ass" or not, but it would nice if someone other than students would respond at the games when we yell "BG....."

Move students from ONE CORNER and spread them out around the arena. Have them cheer back and forth. The rest of the crowd will join them.Falcon Hockey Fan wrote:We are trying to bring some things back, but the "Jack-ass" chant is one thing that the students like. Convince athletics that students should be allowed to sit outside of their little playpen. Same thing with football!pdt1081 wrote:Move students from ONE CORNER and spread them out around the arena. Easier said than done. I do have a couple connections in the Athletics Department, but it wouldn't envolve just them. You would have to talk to ice arena staff and then the ticket office. It would take a lot more work than it should. Also, would others really join in or would they tell them to shut up because they are trying to watch the game?

The cheer "Whose he? Nobody!" is still around. As a student highly involved in our student section, we really want to hear the rest of the crowd reach out and chant along with us. We want to hear the entire area just erupt in BG....SU! I want to do anything I can to help out the alumni and Falcon hockey fans who were around during the Glory Years, so please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. The student section will probably never stop saying "Jack-Ass," but that is the only cheer when we swear, so I really want to get the support of the alumni and other Faclon hockey fans who attend the games.
Bring back the glory!

I guess I'm "ashamed" too. I still don't get it.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Chants
Usually we are getting the power play because of a dirty play, such as tripping, elbowing, illegal contact... so why not call the guy a "Jack-ass." I clearly understand the game of hockey, and I know that it is a good thing to get a power play. I won't say much about this season because it is way to early to say anything about our special teams, but going off of last years play, we scored more goals while being even strength than on the power play, so in that case, yes he is a "Jack-ass" for giving us the power play. I do see that changing this year though, which is definately a positive for the Falcons. I just want people to see that the "Jack-ass" chant IS NOT GOING AWAY. The student section is not going to stop saying it, nor do I want them to stop saying it. I just want them to also say some additional chants that were once strong traditions.

Re: Chants
Im not sure what some folks are trying to create here, but you go to any other college hockey arena, and there not shouting shucks and g'golly gumdrops, and we are in no way even close at all in any way to the chants UofM fans utilize and they fill their arena with students, families, etc. Everyone has a great time there as well, no reason we can create something like that here. I think the students should come up with something they enjoy, this is their 4 years and they are the ones, at least that I have noticed at game (when I am able to go), actually chanting and getting into it. Regardless, enjoy the sport the game, and the history that is the BGSU hockey program.
