When was I not nice? Maybe to one person who I see as so far removed from reality that it aggravates me to no end. In the other posts I just stated my opinion, that happens to be different. I will be the first to admit that maybe I should watch more games. Which I did. I just find it so dull when I do that I can't make it through that long.transfer2BGSU wrote:And you would be setting at the keyboard typing away that you cannot believe that this is a Jim Tressel-led team, that Jim Tressell never had a team play like this while he was the head coach at Ohio State, that Jim Tressell this and Jim Tressell that.....yadda, yadda, yadda.Globetrotter wrote: I can just imagine what our record would be right now with Tressell as Head Coach.
That is why I never take anything you say seriously. You will get upset that I disagreed with you, tell me about how I have a high-holy opinion about BGSU and the state of BGSU Athletics, and yadda, yadda, yadda. And you know what, like every PM you send me, I'll ignore it.Just be nice to those who disagree with you and to those you disagree with. One day you will learn from your mistakes. In the meantime, I have some Obama campaign posters I need to put in Factmans' yard.

Re: 5-18! Dont get excited
Good teams make very few errors, use their weapons agressively by outscheming the other team, can make a field goal and/or extra point and generally dictate the pace and tone of the game. I gave up watching religiously after the first few series of the Rhode Island game because I was worn down by the previous weeks and just found it uninteresting. Maybe I need to come back. I have seen bits and pieces of the last two games and don't think I watched Akron at all. I admittedly just have no ambition to watch these games. It probably has as much to do with our play as it does Gene Smith's proclomation that we will be Division 2 in a few years. Probably won't watch much of this weeks game as I will be with family but based on some of the board member's agressive passion for the quality of this team I clearly need to check it out again.jpfalcon09 wrote:What constitutes a good team in your mind then? f**k Gene Smith...
You worry too much about the labels..are we big..are we little... Screw that. This is a fun team to watch because we have some really great athletes on D that are beating the holy hell out of the teams we're playing. I haven't seen a defense like this here in 20 years or so.
And in case you haven't noticed...we've made 12 staright XP's.

BG's defense dictates the tone of the game. I get that the offense isn't video game like as it was with Harris and Jacobs, and even Sheehan, but it doesn't discount that the team is still fun to watch. Anthon Samuel may end up being the best running back in BG history before his time is up here. Schilz is close to breaking Jacobs' passing yards mark. Its not flashy, but it gets the job done and all we're concerned about is W's.Globetrotter wrote:Good teams make very few errors, use their weapons agressively by outscheming the other team, can make a field goal and/or extra point and generally dictate the pace and tone of the game. The team has finally figured out what it takes to win, and I'm ecstatic for them. A win Saturday and BG is bowl eligible at Week 9, which is awesome. This team wins out and they're going to Detroit. If all you're concerned about is the amount of yards and points the team scores, then go watch West Virginia score 50 and give up 60.

We've won four straight. We keep playing this way, we could legitimately end the regular season on an 8 game win streak. How sweet would that be??
Regardless ... one game at a time. I sure hope and expect the team is focused right now on a five game win streak, not drooling over an 8 game win streak. EMU up next. I don't think their defense will have any answer for our O line and Anthon Samuel / John Pettigrew / Andre Givens, as long as the all play great. Their offense has put up a ton of points the past few weeks but our defense is playing in a way that I haven't seen a MAC D play in all my years watching MAC football. Cliche alert .... defense wins football games. As long as the team plays with the same defensive intensity we've seen and the offensive line controls the line of scrimmage, we'll be just fine and in a week will be talking about going into a bye week and playing Ohio with a well rested team on a 5 game win streak. That ... that would be incredibly sweet.

More cliche, whoever wins the turnover battle wins football games. And we've been winning it.

For being from Ohio and Big Ten country I can't imagine how y'all can't enjoy a defensive team. I love this defense, they lay the wood to people, if you can't enjoy a defense that is flat out nose breaking, bone crunching defense then I'm sorry but your spoiled by the flash in the pan Pac-12 football and their fancy chrome helmets (not surprised since ESPN shows the Nike mothership every week) but this is the Midwest teams dominate with defense and running the ball. Enjoy this while it's here cause we will probably go back to giving up 45 points a game.

This year, I would agree, I'm talking about the past 20 years overall and not just Big Ten but high school football in this area, pro football in this area, Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, even Browns at times, bruising defenses.
I'm just saying if you don't like watching us STOP people on a consistent occasion I don't think you care if we win because it isn't fun to beat people 50-47.

The Big XIIIII isn't real football. Just gimmicky offenses without any defense.kdog27 wrote:Have you watched the Big Ten Latelysum1udontknow wrote:For being from Ohio and Big Ten country I can't imagine how y'all can't enjoy a defensive team. The B1G is the MAC in 2003....only took them 9 years to catch up

I think you could easily make a good case that the MAC in 2003 was superior to the B1G this year.Flipper wrote:The B1G is the MAC in 2003....only took them 9 years to catch up
Miami (OH) 03 > Ohio State 12
Toledo 03 > Wisconsin 12
Northern Illinois 03 > Michigan 12
Bowling Green 03 > Penn State 12
Marshall 03 > Northwestern 12
Who else in the B1G is any good? Nebraska? Michigan State?

Re: 5-18! Dont get excited
MSU has taken a bit of a nose dive since starting out hot.
Nebraska is a slight favorite over Michigan but they're at home, so it's pretty much a wash. They lead the conference in total offense, offensive points, and near the top in rushing offense.
Purdue is a massive disappointment and may be coach shopping in a couple months.
Indiana is quickly improving and is far better than their record but they're still Indiana.
Illinois is ... yeah.
Northwestern is pretty good, and not in the way that Northwestern is not normally pretty good. Meaning they actually have a running game and ... gasp ... a defense. Can't stop the pass to save their lives but their run D looks like anybody other than Northwestern.
Minnesota is not by any means horrible.
Iowa's depth is about ours in 2010.
I'm not sure how the rest of the MAC in 03 would stack up. Partially I just don't remember a ton of the MAC in 2003 outside of the five you listed. Perhaps Kent State could get mention simply because Josh Cribbs was running the offense.
OK quit rambling and reminiscing. Back to work.
