This is a top-15 defense in the country, no doubt. Never seen such a dominant front 7 in the MAC. BG has the best DL in Jones, one of the top LB in Dwayne Woods and Gabe Martin has become an X-factor.

As the previous posts mentioned, the offense must get better. Can't rely on the defense to win us games vs. Ohio and Kent. Hopefully the bye week will offer a chance to change up some things on that side of the ball.

Freakin eh...this D unit just continues to rip apart the opposition no matter who we play. VERY IMPRESSIVE and a ton of fun to watch. The offense was more conservative...I've heard Coach Clawson say a couple times if we can run the ball (225 yds vs EMU) effectively, they won't open it up as much. I LOVED the Schilz to Hopgood to Joplin! Shades of the J5 era with Cole Magner. This team is totally dominating teams and now we have TEN days to get ready for a shaken Ohio U squad. They blew it big time in Oxford yesterday...gonna be a fun trip to Athens!!! Can't wait to get there...

GO FALCONS!!!!! CLOSE THE DEAL!!!!

I love our defense even though, yes they have feasted on lesser teams for 5 game streak of domination. But those same offenses have done well against others and we shut them down. I'm a little worried about our offense but some of that is conservative playcalling because our defense is so dependable. Two straight weeks now Coach Clawson said he shut down the offense because he could not imagine anyone scoring 3-4 TDs on his defense in the time left.

6-3 is where I assumed we would be if we were improved but not yet great this year. We have beaten the teams we should have and lost to 3 on the road against strong opponents.

I'd hoped Ohio would still be undefeated when we face them but so much for that. Its hard to say how they will react to that loss. The next 3 games will not be easy but with this defense, we will be in each one. And yes I am including buffalo in the 'tough' game category. They are due to win one of these close games. I hope its not us.

The fact that Chris Jones wasn't named as a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award is ridiculous. I know we're all biased and 99% of the time non-BCS players that get nominated are just lip service, but how in the hell does he not even get listed among the 16 best defenders in the nation? http://www.maxwellfootballclub.org/news ... -announced

With you there TG.

Jones is very difficult to block. The "big names" on our schedule couldn't block him. Sometimes, couldn't block him AT ALL. The lesser teams couldn't block him with two guys. He is a record setter all time in our weight room, but what seems to create the problems are his feet and general quickness in the bigger body. He is very very athletic for a big man. And the coaching staff rates his technique, film study and motor as among his best assets.

One of the very best defenders to ever play at Bowling Green.

Go Falcons!

Not a single player from a nonBCS school on either of those lists. His season and career stats rank up there or ahead of all those guys listed. Put a SEC uniform on him and he had half the numbers and he would be on that list.

Sad but true. At any rate, CJ is a FALCON and it's great to see him ripping it up.

I also have to think Dwayne Woods ranks pretty high in the best BG linebackers. And the scary thing is I'm not sure there's that much space between him and some of the other LBs on the team. This is one stacked defense.

BG has had some stud linebackers over the years, especially in the early-mid 90s, when two or three LBs on the roster every year could be considered "among the best ever at BG."

agree Chris Jones is the best d lineman I have seen at BG. He played his senior year at the high school 5 miles from where I live. Brownsburg has recently produced 2 MLB players, Storen and Lynn, but people are following him here. He will be playing on Sundays without a doubt.

I just looked up some stats. This team, this defense is incredible. Nationally, BG ranks ...
11th in points per game allowed at 15.2
8th in yards per game allowed at 290.0
16th in rush defense per game at 104.2

Seriously, this is outstanding. BG defense is the best the conference has seen in a long, long time. The teamwork, the coaching, and the individual effort is all paying off huge.

Those are some pretty good stats MarkL. Certainly the best unit we've had in a while.

We lose 2 defensive starters after this year, correct? Jones and Woods. I'm not too concerned about LB since we have a lot of depth there. Replacing Jones is going to be tough.

When we were 1-3 I knew we had a good defense. I will admit though that I did not feel we were good enough to win 6 games. Happy to be wrong and hope to be keep being wrong now that we have 6 wins.
