When GC announced back in March he was sending women's soccer in a "new direction" many questioned what he was thinking. After all, he replaced a very successful and respected coach who had taken his teams to five MAC championship games in eleven seasons, and had earned three MAC titles (two post-season and one regular season) in that time. In his place he put an inexperienced female coach who has little qualifications for the job other than being close friends with the Senior Women's Administrator.
This fall, the new head coach managed to lead the program to a 1-17-1 record which included the following.....
The lowest win total in program history (1)
**That team (IUPUI) only won three games itself.
The highest loss total in program history (17)
The fewest amount of goals scored in program history (9)
**The first time in program history the team failed to score double digits on the season. In reality that is one goal every three hours plus change.
The lowest MAC points total in program history (1)
**This was the worst in conference history since 2001 when Akron got 0 points - as a first-year program.
The fewest MAC wins in program history (0)
The biggest loss in program history (7-0 against Minnesota)
The most amount of goals conceded (43) in a season for ten years.
A first ever loss to in-state rival Cleveland State (2-1, at home!)
A record of 0-9-0 in road games.
A current national RPI ranking of 301 out of 323.
**Only one team (Southern University, from the Southwestern Conference) failed to win a single game all season. BGSU's RPI is helped by games against Michigan State (4-0 loss) and Minnesota (7-0 loss), otherwise they could be ranked 322 out of 323.
The lowest national RPI ranking of any division one program in Ohio and the MAC.
The biggest MAC loss (4-0 at home to Central Michigan) since 1997, the first year of the program.
Behind the scenes girls are quitting, several are looking to transfer and at least one 2013 recruit has de-committed.
GC had plenty of time to search for a new coach for the 2012 season and yet he chose not to. Why did he do that unless it was to promote the close companion of his female administrator?
This season has been a complete disaster and a total embarrassment to the families and followers of BG athletics.
At the very least, GC should be man enough to apologize to Coach Richards for the massive mistake he made and for doing so without any respect for everything Richards has done for BGSU soccer. Of course GC will never do that because he is neither a man of integrity or honesty.
At best, he should offer him his job back!
