Talk about the Buckeyes the Wolverines the Hilltoppers the Ducks the Beavers the Chanticleers... or anyone else who isn't BG or an opponent in this forum.

Mac path to the BCS

Post by Globetrotter »

I would love to see them make it. Here is how it plays out as far as I can tell. Corrections welcome.

From football guy51 http://www.bcsfootball.org/news/story?id=4819597

Essentially, Ohio would need to be ranked in the top 12 in the BCS rankings. They currently are not inside the top 25, and nobody left on their schedule is going to convince the human polls or the computers to rank them anywhere near the top 12, unless a bunch of high ranked teams start losing. The main qualifications are that if you are a non-AQ school in the top 12, and you are the highest ranked non-AQ school, you automatically get a berth. Or, if you are in the top 16, the top ranked non-AQ school, and you are ranked higher than a conference champion from an AQ conference, then you automatically get a berth. Outiside of that, your only hope is for an at-large bid, which means you need to have 9+ wins and be ranked in the top 14, or hope that there aren't enough schools with that criteria that they must expand to the top 18.

Basically, the only way a MAC school makes the BCS is to play all four non-conference games against total beast opponents, slap them around in those games, destroy every MAC opponent, and hope at least one big conference has a down year. If OU goes 13-0 this season, they may get inside the top 20 of the BCS if they're lucky, which means they are guaranteed to play in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, and that's it. It's the sad truth of the BCS bullpoopy."

Current rankings.
*Need to leapfrog Boise St either through votes or a loss for them
**Leads the division (If OU passes only have to go to 16, Best Chance is to be above Big Ten, then Big East, then ACC)

Code: Select all

12 **Florida State 7-1 Duke-Va Tech-Maryland-#2 Florida
13 South Carolina 6-2 Tennessee-Arkansas-Wofford-#18 Clemson
14 Texas Tech 6-1 #3 Kansas St-#23 Texas-Kansas-Oke St-Baylor
15 **Rutgers 7-0 Kent State-Army-Cincy-Ptt #16 Louisville
16 Louisville 7-0 Cincy-Temple-Syracuse-Uconn-#15 Rutgers
17 Stanford 5-2 Wash St-Colorado-#7 Oregon St-#4 Oregon-UCLA
18 Clemson 6-1 Wake-Duke-Maryland-NC St-#13 SC
19 West Virginia 5-2 TCU-Oke St-#8 Oke-Iowa St-Kansas
20 Texas A&M 5-2 Auburn-#11 Miss St-#1 Bama-Sam Houston St-Missouri
21 *Boise State 6-1 Wyoming-SD St-Hawaii-C State-Nevada
22 **Michigan 5-2 Nebraska-Minnie-Nwestern-Iowa-OSU
23 Texas 5-2 Kansas-#14 Texas Tech-Iowa St-TCU-#3 Kansas St
24 Ohio 7-0 Miami-Eastern-BG-Ball St-Kent
25 Wisconsin 6-2 Michigan St-Indiana-OSU-PSU
1. Great reason to root for OSU as they can knock down both Wisconsin and Michigan which would greatly help OU.
2. SD St and Nevada are the best chance to beat Boise St.

I hope OU finishes the regular season with at least one loss, and that loss is to Bowling Green. No BCS for OU, and Bowling Green wins the MAC championship. Go Falcons!

I hope not entirely dead but you are probably right. Toledo, N Illinois or Kent State are all in the mix. Would be nice if a bunch of the 16 to 25 ranked teams lost.

Yeah I don't see any MAC team with a loss ever making a BCS bowl. If one loss Boise State teams couldn't I just don't see it happening

A 1 loss Boise State team will likely do it this year.

Which is amazing in itself if it happens because this Boise team is no where near as good as some of the other 1 loss Boise teams that didn't make the BCS. I just have a hard time seeing two 1 loss non-BCS conference schools making BCS game. The MAC teams are gonna probably need Boise to lose if they want any chance at a BCS bowl, which even then I still think is gonna be a long shot

If they make the top 16 and are above all the big ten dudes they are in. I doubt a mac team makes it.

If a west team has one loss going into the title game and is ranked high I hope BG is the east team and kicks the s**t out of the west team. BG as MAC champs is way way way more important than any other MAC team in the BCS. I would love to hear the tears of NIU fans watching as their dream season comes to an end while Dave Clawson holds up the MAC trophy.
