Students From Other Schools

Post by pdt1081 »

I was talking with an intern at work the other day about attending a BGSU hockey game. He jokingly said he wished BG would honor the UT student IDs. That kinda triggered something with me and I'm wondering if BG offers a discounted ticket rate to students of other schools? There are a lot of area students that choose other schools simply because of program selection. With Ann Arbor being the closest competing college hockey program, I think there is a lot of potential for increased attendance with a half-priced ticket. There are a number of schools nearby with students that come to BG to visit friends and party.

Thoughts?

I think this is a good idea. Half price tickets for students at other colleges would bring in more revenue and give the program a bigger following.

You could go one step further and offer it to HS students with a student ID as well.

The NCAA probably won't allow discounts for HS kids.

Why not have a few high-school nights, and as a promotion donate tickets to area high schools? BG, Findley, Sylvania, etc?

I dont see any reason to discount other colleges, at least not the ones we compete with since they would probably never do the same for us.

Can students buy discounted tickets? hockey games would be great for family another related weekends?

Yes students can buy student guest tickets for hockey, along with football and basketball, which are cheaper then regular GA tickets

Unless they've recently changed the rules, student guest tickets are only for students from the visiting school. So, for example, UT students couldn't buy them for hockey games.

Student guest tickets are tickets that BGSU students can buy for their guests that are not BGSU students. I don't know if they've ever been for students from other institutions, but I know the students guest ticket policy, in its current form, dates back to when I was a student at BG starting in 2002.

Hmm, so it's even more restrictive than I thought. The more you know.

There are many area residents that have chose other schools based on financials, program choices, etc. Whether it be Owens, Defiance, Findlay, Toledo, UNO (Lima, not Nebraska), whatever. They are still very loyal BGSU Hockey fans and often try to bring friends to games. It's an opportunity to expand the fan base for the future.

I dont like the idea of UT fans coming to our games unless they are BG hockey fans, and since there is no way to decipher who is who, discount tickets for community college students sounds like a great idea.

Pdt thats exactly what I said, as long as we don't compete against the school discount away.

I dont like the idea of discounting tickets for UT students.
Simple reason, UT students are, by definition, all a.holes.

I think we should do it for smaller schools in the area, such as Owens, Findlay, and Blufton, but not Toldeo... Screw those guys.

Instead of offering discounts to Owens, Findlay et. al our ticket office should work with their on campus events committees and sell them group nights at discounted rates. It could be "Express Night with the Falcons" and Owens students could sign up or buy tickets through a central point on their campus or even through an email blast. Work with their student govt to arrange a bus or van leaving from the union at 6pm to drive to BG with an all inclusive price. I'd suggest this route rather than a blanket discount policy.

I may be wrong but Owens (when you combine the Findlay and Toledo locations) is bigger than UT and BG.
