I'll grant it would have been closer. But we were already ahead most of the game with him in.

So, yes, while the ability of our defense to shut them down in the second half with Williams in is defintely in some doubt -- I don't think the outcome would have been in doubt.
I don't disagree with you there Schad. We were looking to be the better team on that day whether Williams played or not.

The thing that I object to is people saying how good our defense was in the 2nd half of that game. It was much improved, but a lot of that was because the opponent's best player broke his leg.

Memphis was never going to stop our offense that day, so I doubt that we would've lost even if Williams had played the entire 2nd half healthy. However, I'm skeptical about how great our defense would've looked had Williams been out there healthy.

If we had not gotten ahead early like we usually do on teams, I think Willams would've easily gotten 180 to 200 yards rushing in that game. The simple fact that we had 2 td lead for awhile meant that they were gonna have to pass a little more from time to time. But, stilll coming from behind to nearly tie it up , Williams broke many big runs in their cause.
