Al Jardine was born in Lima.

Winner. He spent a lot of time as a youth at the beach along Hog Creek and got this great idea for a band....

Good gosh how did I forget about the Replacements?

Also, Ike Everly developed a new guitar picking technique and his sons the Everly Brothers set the standard for harmony.

I actually considered them- they did some really cool and strange music before the Sat Night Fever stuff. Odessa is one of my favorite albums and not just because it was fuzzy. The Dorsey's...I cut my teeth on Jimmy and Tommy. Literally. Used to gum my dad's 76s.
Must have been hard to find a player for those 76's. That or suffer through the distortion of two revolutions per minute faster.

Put strips of lead tape around the turntable and it slows down two rpm. Yeah, 76s were kinda like Beta max, never really caught on. My dad is a purist though and felt the 78s didn't capture the room.

Was it the wide strips or narrow strips of lead tape? I always thought that lead was too soft of a material and over dampened the turntable. Was your turntable direct drive or belt drive, that would make a difference.

LOL. Remember how people used to argue about this one?

Direct Drive was truer speed because you could adjust the little strobe light to keep the turntable going at the right speed, but the belt-drive purists said that the direct-drive motor caused a background hum. . .

Actually, the strobes were on both types. Belt drive purists felt that the belt helped in dampening the vibrations. Direct drive pundits claimed that there were fewer fluxuations in the speed. Neither one really had an advantage over the other. The only real difference was that the direct drive turntables cost more, thus they must be better...

The Allman Brothers are my favorite bros with or without Duane. I've seen them 7 times.

Vinyl and turntables - the technology that our parents invented before we invented the compact disc and MP3 players for you.

Speak up, us old people can't hear you after all these years of cranking up our stereos until the turntables would start to shake and skipping the tonearm across the long playing vinyl albums.

Just wait for them to change the conversation to talking about which album cover was best to separate their marijuana seeds.

No wonder SW-MI Falcon likes the Allman Brothers so much 8-)

OH - those big black vinyl round things they were talking about earlier were called "albums" and they used to come with a protective sleeve and a cardboard cover. I've heard stories about some people using those album covers for uses other than the intended protection of the big round black vinyl thing.
