The refs so far this year have not allowed any hard hits. They throw out a b.s. penalty. Its hockey, let the boys play.

The refs were excellent at the Friday night game. I know they used to have the same refs both nights of a series, so not sure if that happened here.

Re: The Bleacher Creatures are Back!
There were a few hits on Saturday, that if happened last year, would have been called a game misconduct. Doe anyone remember that Alaska game last year, where we had what...21 penalty minutes in the first period and 2 people ejected, if my memory is correct...that was ridiculous.

With penalties for "indirect contact to the head, elbowing" and "roughing the goaltender," both called on BG, I'll let you be the judge.Redwingtom wrote:The refs were excellent at the Friday night game. MSU had a roughing the GT call the night before.
I'm not as emotionally involved in the team as I used to be. Funny, that leads to a way more optimistic view of officiating.

I'm the same way when it comes to all sports, and now I just don't get mad at refs like I used to. Honestly in some instants what is the point, if one side hates the call they other side is going to think its the right call, so in the end who is really right? Now I usually just get mad if it was a super obvious call that was somehow missedRedwingtom wrote:I'm not as emotionally involved in the team as I used to be. All I know is that we have hard hitters. We have guys that are capable of checking an opposing player, and that sets the tone for the game. Especially with Tate being in the line-up, we have guys that can do some serious damage with their hitting ability, the problem is that the refs won't let them. I understand they want to keep the game safe, but that is what all the padding is for. Let the boys be rough and play the sport as it should be played. Unless someone is doing something stupid (elbowing, rushing the goaltender, or forcefully hitting to the head) there really shouldn't be all of these penalties.

FHF, I realize you are young so I won't bash you too much. But when we had the likes of Gino Cavallini, Iain Duncan, Matt Ruchty, Marc Potvin, Rob Blake, etc. THAT was hard hitting. Today's CCHA is not even close to that type of play.

Trust me, I know what those guys could do, epecially Blake. Just because I'm young doesn't mean I can't look up hockey history. I know that Blake's hip checks were some of the best in the league, and that his greatest checking ability was in his behind. One of the reasons checking is not at the level it once was is because they would call all kinds of penalties on that. Years ago they could get away with hitting at that high level, now they can;t do it because the refs are too soft.

Or the refs have been told to call them is more likely the case.

Re: The Bleacher Creatures are Back!
Probably true too. Either way, at some point along the line, college hockey has got really soft. If you throw a punch, your ejected; if you hit too hard, your put in the box. I just wish they would let them play a hard hitting game like it is supposed to be played.

They've been told to call hits from behind. I can count 4 from the last two games in the Ice Arena that weren't.Redwingtom wrote:Or the refs have been told to call them is more likely the case.
