Beat EMU!
I believe it does count and that we just need to get to 6 wins overall to be bowl eligible
Playing two FCS schools in one season changes things though. I was at the UC/Toledo football game last week I heard some UC fans saying because they played two 1-AA schools this year (TCU bailing on the Big East before even joining the conference screwed with their schedule) they had to get to 7 wins to be bowl eligible. One FCS appears to be ok towards being bowl eligible at six wins, but if its more then one FCS then you have to get to seven wins. I believe that is why Eastern was not eligible to go to a bowl last season, they were 6-6 but played two FCS schools
Thanks for the update "BGFalconfromCincy." With 3 pivotal MAC East games left in the season I'm not going to start making hotel reservations just yet, but I like the Military bowl and the projected matchups. First it's a bowl that is easy enough to drive to. Secondly the timing is good between Christmas and New Years, and finally I like the idea of being matched up with BCS conference teams in Washington and Arizona State. Not crazy about sitting outside at RFK stadium in December but oh well! Once again, it's at least fun to be having this conversation after the last 2 years. 1 game at a time though, so on to Athens for what we all hope will be a good showing and one more step toward a spot in the MACC game on November 30th!
OK...looking at the CBS Sports projections, if there guessing is correct, then 8 MAC teams are in bowl games. Long cry from when Miami went 10-1 in 1998 and sat at home with no bowl invite.
starts NOW fans . . . . per John Wagner of The Blade:
if the Falcons want to play in a bowl game, they need to start rooting for teams like Syracuse, Missouri and Virginia Tech to lose. Second, fans need to show bowls they will support a winning team by buying tickets for the final two games of the season. After all, having a lot of wins is nice, but bowls think buying a lot of tickets is nicer.

My 10 yr old has been talking about the time he and I flew down to Mobile for a bowl game for the last 5 yrs. even though the game went badly. I'm so looking forward to sharing this experience with him again. And, with his 6 yr old brother this time as well....maybe Momma too. Please don't let this one be out west..... Put me down for 4 tickets WTH!

Unless the bowl game BG goes to is somewhat within our geographical region, we're likely not going to sell many tickets. Our best bets right now are either Motor City, Pinstripe, Military or GoDaddy.com.

Not sure how you figure that EIGHT teams might go to bowls....right now there are SIX that are "eligible" (frankly, I hate that term) ... KSU, OU and BG in the East.... UT, NIU, BSU in the West... Miami still has a chance if they can win out....who else?

Western Michigan can get to 6-6, which would qualify them if the bowls are struggling to fill spots.

Class of 61 - CBS Sports as November 5th had the following MAC teams going bowling:
Ohio, Bowling Green, Miami, Western Michigan, Toledo, Ball State, Kent State & Northern Illinois
Going into November 10th games, both Central and Western Michigan have to win out to get to 6-6 and be eligible (both with six losses as of now). Miami is the only other conference team that is on the bubble at 4-5. They need two wins to get eligible of the three remaining. The rest of the MAC is eligible. A 6-6 season for these teams makes them eligible but very doubtful they all get to a bowl let alone any of them. There are 70 bowl slots and 90 teams headed into this weekend still competing for a spot. As of now, there are 9 teams with six losses so any of these fall this weekend, they are out. There are 19 teams with 5 losses with three weeks to go so these teams would have to lose two of three contests.
So of the 26 teams still looking to get eligible, 3 are from the MAC. Miami hosts Kent this weekend and then plays Central next week before closing out with Ball State. The safe bet is that the RedHawks will not win two of the three and therefore not get to a bowl. A lot depends on how they play Kent Saturday. This has to be the must win game for them.
Central is at Eastern then home with Miami and closing their season at UMass. They need to win all three and again, the safe bet is they don't and they would be out. Western only has two games remaining..at Buffalo and hosting Eastern. A loss to either and they are out. They should win both but Buffalo is the key game for them.
The MAC should have at least six teams as these teams all have at least 7 wins so far. Pretty good showing for the conference!
