Not to change the subject entirely, but I think we may miss Burkes more than anyone else next year. We have some young talent at LB, but Burkes was a beast.
I also don't think GB was trying to slight the kicking game...I think he meant to say the team had more pressing needs.
Next Season Questions
Yes Burkes will be missed. But if you remember, he was hurt at the beginning of the 2003 season and Peipkow stepped in a MLB and did a decent job. I think Teddy will move inside again and take over for Burkes.Flipper wrote:Not to change the subject entirely, but I think we may miss Burkes more than anyone else next year. Agree 100%. Brandon knows kicking is important, but given our offensive prowess, recruiting other positions is much more important.Flipper wrote:I also don't think GB was trying to slight the kicking game...I think he meant to say the team had more pressing needs.

I enjoyed the debate and criticism. I hope I clarified my comments well enough so that I was not misunderstood. I do think kicking is important, and I do recognize the advantages it gave us having Suisham. I just believe that our games NEXT YEAR should not and will not be lost because we no longer have a Groza Semi-Finalist.
And Jovon is a beast! I hope he gets a shot at the next level in Europe or CFL - he is very talented and knowledgeable, just maybe a bit undersized/slow for NFL LB position, and unable to switch to DE/Safety like some college LB's do.

I couldn't agree more!! It would have put BG up by 2 scores and halted some of UT's momentum. When I watched that kick bounce off the upright, dagger in the heart! THe UT students started going wild....TG and a few of us others were right across the aisle from the UT student section...that was brutal.BelieveNBG wrote:Acutally, we did have a game where we needed a field goal...UT. We had a chance to extend the lead in the 3rd quarter with the score 27 - 21 when they were making a comeback. A field goal at that point of the game may have helped shift the momentum back in our favor and stop the bleeding. This may have yanked some of the swagger back from UT, but it was missed only to add more fuel to their fire. Just because we score alot of touchdowns, there are many times when u need a field goal and not just for the game winner. Sometimes you just need to counter back with any points you can get.
Great post....

Brutal isn't the word for it, Freak!!! We were on such a high and such a roll at halftime, and those students were just dumb... err, "dumbfounded". I was pretty disappointed though that when they took the lead and started taunting us, the best they could do was the high school standby "why so quiet?" chant...Falconfreak90 wrote: THe UT students started going wild....TG and a few of us others were right across the aisle from the UT student section...that was brutal.
And I still get a laugh out of the big girl yelling at a BG coed walking down the aisle "man, BG girls really ARE ugly!" If I only had a mirror....

Thanks for adding that, because I was one of those others across the aisle. As I typed up that scenario, I had a flashback (nightmare) of the crowd going wild, but I just couldn't bring myself to helping that memory by putting it down. I concur...that kick was huge and many have overlooked it with all of the other huge disappointments...but if you were there, there is no overlooking it.
