I enjoy being reminded because our AD is a complete clown. And this Buffalo game being in Columbus is a complete and utter joke. First off, its a home game were wasting, not Buffalo. Second, we could be crowned MAC Champions on a shitty field in shitty Columbus, and not at the Doyt, where all of our long time supporting fans DESERVE it to be at. And third, all those businesses in BG that rely on Football weekends as part of their revenue, with a lot if not most on them whom give money to the athletic department, take a HUGE slap in the face by the clown and his clown posse deciding to take this HOME game to Columbus. It's a joke and another reason why BG can not, year in and year out, draw any fans, public interest or public support.Falcon137 wrote:Hopefully that means you wont show up. Everyone on this board gets it. You hate the AD, you hate everything about the athletic department, and you hate the game in Columbus.
We don't need reminded in every thread about the Buffalo game and you don't need to remind us of your hate for Christopher, we all know.
It gets old opening threads up just to see you piss and moan about everything Christopher and the athletic department does / tries. Especially something that hasn't happened yet and could be a success.

Re: Ticket Sales
We have had 5 home games already which is as many or more than we ever get. I don't see a problem trying something new on a game that is traditionally not well attended.
It would be different if we were routinely putting 20,000 in the stands. We aren't.

Re: Ticket Sales
Long time fans? Yep, because they don't travel from around the state and outside the state, already. Maybe you're talking about the hardcore fans in the BG / Toledo area who packed the Doyt this year to the tune of 13,158 against Eastern Michigan. Give me a break.CrazyFan wrote:I enjoy being reminded because our AD is a complete clown. And this Buffalo game being in Columbus is a complete and utter joke. But, with an argument like having to play in, "shitty Columbus" I have a hard time not seeing your point....
Of course, those same longtime fans came out and supported the day after Thanksgiving last time. 5,121 were there. But, they were terrible that year.
Probably in 2009, when they played long time rival Toledo, in a game where they were going to win their 6th MAC game and lock up a bowl. I'm sure the loyal local fans came out and supported. Whoops....a whopping 14,075 showed up.
If a business in BG needs 6 Saturdays for BG football to survive, they probably aren't going to survive anyway.
I get that this game in Columbus is a lightning rod, especially for those who hate the current staff. If they draw 6,000 people and it's not a positive for the alumni association and university, then hate away, call it whatever you want, bash away on Christopher, but at least let it happen first.

Re: Ticket Sales
Our fans just like to bitch. Oh, I can't bring my own food into the basketball games...I have to wait until there's a stoppage in play before I go back to my seats...they moved the black Friday game to the fastest growing city in OH when it never draws flies up here...and on and on and on...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

If we get crowned MAC champions, it will happen on a shitty field in shitty Detroit. We can only capture the MAC EAST Division title in Columbus.CrazyFan wrote:Second, we could be crowned MAC Champions on a shitty field in shitty Columbus, and not at the Doyt, where all of our long time supporting fans DESERVE it to be at.

Re: Ticket Sales
Back to the original topic...has anyone had any contact with someone in the ticket office who was willing to divulge any information about ticket sales? Based on the information being pumped out from the athletic department through social media, it seems as if EVERY student should know just how important this game is. With kids today a noon start concerns me. When I was at BG it didn't matter to me if they played at 8:00am or 8:00pm I was going. I've never understood the comment from some people, students included, who say that BG football is not "big time." Message to those people: YOU make it "big time" by packing a stadium and cheering like mad. I'll make this argument until the day I die: there is NO WAY in hell that the quality of football played in Columbus is better than they play at BG based on cost! Please do not misread this. i admit on the whole they recruit more athletes who are better than BG does, but NOT better for the cost. I get to watch D1 football for roughly 20.00 per game as a season ticket holder, I park a wedge shot away from the stadium, I got 2 free tickets to an away game, I'm treated a couple of times a year to special events like signing day and the pre-season kickoff and I'm always made to feel like I'm a special part of the program. Game day in Cbus consists of a 50.00 ticket in shitty seats, 25.00 parking, snarled traffic, a bus ride from a tailgate spot and snarled traffic. Now I ask so called BIG 10 fans this all the time...is the quality of the football 50 to 60 dollars better than at BG? I say no way! It's BIG TIME because for some unknown reason 100,000 people show up! So, to make a sporting event at this level big time all we need are people to show up! For the life of me I've never understood this!

Columbus is a great city, and Crew Stadium's "field" is considered one of the best in MLS.

I'll believe it when I see it. I hope I am wrong!footballguy51 wrote:In the BG news today, they said tomorrows game will be at 90% capacity.
90% of the current 23,724 capacity would be 21,351.

Regarding the Buffalo game:
- It's a game in Ohio, against a team from New York. I might be a little cooler on it if we were playing another Ohio school in Columbus, that would be a true neutral site. But Columbus is the same trip for UB as coming to BG would be. It's 90% a home game. Both UB alums living in Columbus will have to be pretty rowdy for the Bulls to get the crowd advantage.
- Even if attendance isn't great, at least they're trying something. History shows it wouldn't be good for a Thanksgiving weekend in BG, so what's the difference?
- People travel to Bowling Green for football games from Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, Michigan, etc. Sure, local people who go to every game at the Doyt are a little inconvenienced having to travel to Columbus, but it's also a day no one works. You would think anyone disenfranchised from NW Ohio would be made up for by alums in Columbus who don't have the time to get up to BG very much for games, that are probably really excited to go to this game. The fact it could be a really big game for the division only helps that. For the folks that come from across the state to BG, the trip to Columbus will either be shorter or not much longer that it makes a difference to them.
- If it's an 11 a.m. kick, so be it. I'd prefer 2, otherwise I'll have to start driving in from PA in the middle of the night. But sheesh, in the end these are just minor inconveniences. Just roll with the punches. First, people complain that we have to play mid-week games for ESPN. Then, we have a chance to play a Saturday game on an ESPN network, and people complain it's too early. There is no pleasing some people.
Going out of the way to complain about every single piece of excruciating minutiae regarding the scheduling of BGSU sports comes across much more as cranky contrarians who feel like they have to take the opposite side of whatever those in power do, no matter how well-reasoned and logical it is, moreso than a real concern for BGSU sports.
Win or lose vs. Kent State, I'm very excited to see this team play for the first time this year. Couldn't care less I'm driving to Columbus for it opposed to BG...and I love me some BG visits. But hey, that's just me.

I live in "shitty Columbus" and I will be at the game tomorrow and the day after Thanksgiving. I wish they'd play one game in Columbus every year.
