Kent Thread
Re: Kent Thread
I don't know about Kent adjustments but all you need to look at is the Akron game to know how good our halftime adjustments can be.

You can also look back at a few years previous to now and see how bad our half time adjustments can be.

Would have liked to get that first field goal but I'll take the tie with as much we played inside our own 20.

Re: Kent Thread
Halftime thoughts ...
Our pass offense has come up big today. Kent is trying to shut down Anthon Samuel.
On that note, most teams recently have tried that strategy. The only one until now that has succeeded in this endeavor is UMass, but we moved fine when we needed against them. Kent and UMass are not on the same level in any sense. Except that they both beat Akron.
Our D is fantastic. They've given up one big play.
Giving up one big play to Dri Archer, well, we saw what happens there.
That last two minutes was among the best two minutes I've seen in a while at BG. In the previous two years, one of three things happen. We give up a safety, we get a punt blocked, or we give Kent a rather short field and they score. That was great, great team play.
Also, punting straight to Archer was ballsy. Very ballsy. It shows that we're not afraid of Archer and we want to flat out beat him. Archer got shellacked on that punt return. I gotta wonder if that instant hit is going to reverberate in the second half. Sometimes when a player gets clocked like that unexpectedly, it comes back to haunt him later in the game.
And again ... our D is awesome. They came up HUGE when needed. They are put in a short field due to a turnover and get a third and 1 stop and hold to a FG. They are pushed into FG range but force an intentional grounding on third down and force a punt. They need a stop with less than a minute to go and the first play is tackling the QB and forcing Kent to either keep the clock running or call a time out. All huge moments.
We played a near flawless final two minutes and fantastic ball after the Archer run. We've got the momentum. Must keep this up. Defense starts out on the field in the second half and we need to continue that great play. We can definitely win this thing.
GO BG!!

Re: Kent Thread
Yep, its up to the offense to take this victory. The D has done their job. Offense needs to take ownership and take control. It takes two sides of the ball to win championships. Great D is fundamental to championship teams but they also have offenses that do their fair share. Kent seems to be very intent on stopping Samuel and our running game. I don't think we can run on them like we did on a tired OU team last time out. Kent seems ripe for play action down field. Hope Coach Claw realizes this.Dayons_Den wrote:Do we want this? I think if we get the run game going, we win this game. Either way, I think the passing game has gotten a bit bette (by a very, very, slim margin).
I like our chances.

Hope so. He hadn't returned a punt all year so it must not be something he is comfortable with (leaving his body unprotected).MarkL wrote: Also, punting straight to Archer was ballsy. Very ballsy. He is Percy Harvin or Tedd Ginn Fast.
Re: Kent Thread
Do we "puch" the kickoff again to avoid Archer? That means they'll start around their 40.

Re: Kent Thread
Few of the run plays have developed too slowly and Schilz needs to run it a time or two to keep some honesty on the defense on those reads plays. I think we can get it going.

We might as well try a surprise onsides kick one of these times.Rollo83 wrote:Do we "puch" the kickoff again to avoid Archer? That means they'll start around their 40.
Re: Kent Thread
Hard telling. As 27 said Archer is not used to punt returning. His forte is kick returning. I'd seriously consider kicking deep towards him to start the second half. If the D gets the stop on him, that is huge and sets the tone for the half. But I could see them playing safe. Regardless of whether Archer is mentally 100% or not he is Kent's most dangerous player and can single handedly change the game. His big run is their only TD and you know Coach Clawson has that on his mind.

Quick note. We've pulled out a trick play the last two games on offense. Might we see another?
