Clawson should have used the timeout. That's not on Schilz.

If we could have stayed on top of the turnover battle it was ours.

Third down screen from our own 15 was so stupid. Too little field for them to cover to try that. I blame the coaches there.

Agree that was a bed call, and into th e short side of the field to boot.

Postgame thoughts ...

That hurts. Think about our D here. They gave up ...
... two big plays to the most explosive runner in the country.
... one long sustained drive.
... ten points on short fields off turnovers.
This D is legit. And so is the Kent O.
Schilz played great when needed, up until two misses to Bayer late. Kent's D line kept him dancing around. For much of the game, though, he was a leader and a captain.
Speaking of leaders ... Joplin and Gallon both came up big. Many many times.
Kent is the best team in the east. Period. Best of luck to them vs NIU.
Big game vs UB on Friday. 7 wins is good for a bowl game but 8 is pretty much a lock.

BTW ... I didn't hear Chris Jones much past the first quarter. Did he get hurt?

Disappointing loss. Very disappointing. But not a disappointing season at all. BG is a great team and just got beat by an incredible team. That was one great, great game. Hard to swallow, though. Time for UB.

Sucks. So close. Had our chances but we don't have a championship running game to go with our pretty good D. You're not gonna win giving up 336 yds rushing. Not gonna happen. Oh well, lets beat Buffalo and find out if we go to a bowl.

And one more quick thought. Our D played well, yes, but there's three guys who are the biggest reasons why we had an opportunity to win in the final seconds.
Schilz, Joplin, and Gallon. Schilz threw three picks, yes. One off a Gallon tip, one off a great play by a D lineman, one while running for his life with the game on the line. His big plays, gutsy throws kept us in this game. He deserves a ton of credit for this game. For so much of this game, he really looked the part of a leader, a manager, a captain, and a playmaker. We've got one more year of development with this guy and when he graduates after next year, I think he's going to be badly missed.

Schilz had a solid game. My question for you, and me is this-What did you expect to happen at the end when we had to put the ball in his hands to win? I don't really view Schilz as a "gamer". I expected an ill advised pass into the end zone as he was being pressured. I do think that Matt Johnson had been given the "gamer" label. That might be worth nothing considering how little time he has seen in college. Schilz had a few tipped picks today but overall was pretty solid. I still think Johnson might fit this offense better.

I feel like you haven't watched much of this season.

Schilz/Gallon are very reminiscent of Sheehan/Barnes after today. I think we've finally realized our go-to receiver. That'll be fun to watch next year.

Nice of Joplin to show up today. That last drive couldn't have happened without him.

I agree with the first part. But that didn't seem to be there much of the season and he seemed to lose composure when it mattered. I think by the end of this we will be salivating over Johnson or Knapke. Someone with more intangibles for the QB position.

A running game that could do what they wanted could've easily offset whatever Shilz lacks. Kent clearly had control of the game via their running game with Archer. As good as our D looked in the previous 6 or 7 games , they looked about as bad trying to contain Archer. The defense may not be as good as well thought they were but they were good enough if we had a running game to match. Teams that have great defenses AND great running games usually win championships. We got some talent at WR , we got some very good talent at rb. We just have to develop an O-line that can impose their will on a team. Although I will lay some blame to our coaches bizzare running plays and formations. Most of them made no sense whatsoever.
