It's just another example though. We very well might not go over a 6-6 team that limps into the bowls because we don't have enough people who care about the program.

I agree with Globetrotter for once. Per Google:

If UConn and Pitt both win next week, that will make 73 teams eligible for 70 spots. CMU would appear to be the obvious first cut IMO, and I think WKU might be next in line. The last cut would likely come down to either BG, Ohio, ULM or ULL.

There will be 72 teams, UTSA is bowl exempt this year due to the transfer rule from FCS to FBS. CMU would be the first to go and WKU second, so I think BGSU is a lock to make it.

As far as the argument about BG not being attractive, their out of conference schedule and stellar defense will make them sought after by someone. FWIW, there's also word floating around that BG and Toledo may meet again in the Pizza Bowl since the Big Ten can't fill their tie-in...or you might see UConn or Pitt vs. a MAC team. Lots of options.

No, UTSA is already factored out of the mix. There are 71 eligible right now (OSU, PSU, UNC, Miami and UTSA are out) with potential for two more.

Good call, I was using ESPN and they didn't mark Georgia Tech as eligible yet.

If we get the BBVA bowl I will celebrate like we got a BCS bowl game.

Would be a good get and the team would get about an extra month of practice in.

I believe Georgia Tech will still be able to go if they lose in the ACC championship because I think a team can come in .500 into a conference championship and lose and still go (see Miami-Ohio and UCLA). I don't think they can be penalized for a loss in the championship game from going to a bowl.
NCAA revoked that waiver this year for 6-7 teams. Its win the ACC or bust for Georgia Tech, which leaves them currently ineligible and us at 71 teams eligible.

Music City Bowl projection vs Vandy. Now that would be sweet!

Now that is a new one, going into this week it was mostly Military and Compass with one New Orleans Bowl from Phil Steele. Since I don't expect us to get a bid from one of the three MAC Bowls I would like to see a game between the day after Christmas and New Years, just cause that is my favorite time of the bowl year

A 6-6 team is going to limp in over us because their conference still has bowl slots to fill. No 6-6 team from a conference with no bowl slots left is going to get in over us because of the rule that already exisits. If Central gets a bowl it means we are in a bowl. The MAC needs to go and try and secure more primary bowl bids after the steller year the conference had, plus the fact that there will be one less FBS conference next year with the WAC not having football.

We can scratch Louisiana-Lafayette off the list of teams we might get a bowl bid over. They are 7-4 and have accepted a bid to the New Orleans bowl, so their final game next week is essentially meaningless. Make perfect sense for that bowl to offer them though.
