I admit to being one of those people. Never thought a MAC team with a lose would make at BCS bowl. If it happens this year I will be happy that I was wrongGlobetrotter wrote:I think a few people said it was ridiculous just a few weeks ago. Now it's win and in.

Word is that Ohio is being considered for the BBVA Compass Bowl to play against Ole Miss.

I saw that "rumor." Some OU student journalist tweeted it. Wouldn't put much stock into it. I would be shocked if they picked a team lost 4 of it's last 5 and got manhandled in it's last 3 games to play a good SEC team.jpfalcon09 wrote:Word is that Ohio is being considered for the BBVA Compass Bowl to play against Ole Miss.
John Wagner mentioned in his blog he was heard the, Little Caesars Bowl could go with a BG vs UT match-up. That would be.....odd.

FWIW, Phil Steele currently does not having BG going to a bowl game. Has Pitt and GA Tech getting in and Ohio getting the bid to play in the Military Bowl. Fun times.

ESPN article on Georgia Tech's situation:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/sto ... -seminoles
Why do I have a feeling if Georgia Tech loses to Florida State and gets the waiver (the rules changed this year but you can rest assured they will try for it), that it will come at the cost of BG not getting in. If just one or two more of those 12 teams playing this Saturday had lost (9 won, only 3 lost) we would be sitting pretty. But I'll tell you, I'm going to lose it if Ohio gets in over BG (both teams are 8-4) after we finished 6-2 in the MAC and they finished 4-4, we have won 6 of our last 7 while they have lost 4 of their last five, and we also beat them head-to-head on the road.

Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
Ohio has name notoriety this year for beating Penn State. We played a harder schedule, but they have a signature win and frankly, BG doesn't. We need to hope like heck that Pitt and UConn both lose this week to ensure that we get an at-large bid to one of the Big East bowls. A win by one of them and a GA Tech waiver being accepted means BG and Ohio are likely fighting for the last available spot.BGSU33 wrote:ESPN article on Georgia Tech's situation:

Gotta admit I was pretty confident about getting a bid before Saturday's games...now I am sweating it. Pitt and UConn both have to lose to make it better for us. Trying to stay positive...

Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
Impossible. The only way a 6-7 team on a waiver can get in is if there aren't enough legit bowl eligible teams to fill the spots. Georgia Tech is more desperate than we are; they need to either stun Florida State in the ACC Title game to make the Orange Bowl at 7-6 or have no bowl. Amazingly, it's BCS or nothing for them. Since there are already 70 or more eligible teams for 70 slots, I don't see why people are so worried about Georgia Tech. Even 6-6 Central Michigan is in line for a bowl before GT if they lose to FSU.BGSU33 wrote:ESPN article on Georgia Tech's situation:

Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
If, and its a big if, BG gets snubbed, the athletic dept. needs to take a long hard look at making BG a more attractive bowl team in the future. Likewise, fans and students who could have made games but didn't go need to understand that they're a reason why a team deserving of going to a bowl game, didn't go. Its all about butts in the seats and selling tickets for these games.

Ohio resume:
Outscored in their last 3 games - 106 - 47. Last 6 quarters of the season...outscored 69 - 16.
Lost 4 of their last 5. Finished on 3 game losing streak.
Beat 0 bowl eligible teams.
Finished 3rd in their division.
Beat Penn State (8-4) in week 1.
Led MAC in attendance.
Head to head- Lost at home to BGSU.
Yeah....I'll be pretty pissed if OU gets in and BG doesn't.

The only two things that matter on there to bowl committees are the win vs. Penn State and led the MAC in attendance. $$$$ and gives people a reason to watch.Falcon137 wrote:Ohio resume:

True. Just frustrating when you see Ohio's non conference schedule and then seeing how they preformed against the good MAC teams. Good for them for manipulating the system, I guess.jpfalcon09 wrote:The only two things that matter on there to bowl committees are the win vs. Penn State and led the MAC in attendance. $$$$ and gives people a reason to watch.Falcon137 wrote:Ohio resume:

Just pisses me off seeing how bad they were against good teams and how awful they played basically throughout all of conference play. They beat the 3 worst teams in the East by a combined 16 points, then lost to a 4 win Miami, then got curb stomped by BG, Ball State, and Kent.
Re: What the bowl picture looks like right now
I felt that way then and feel the same way now as well too. After our win Friday and Marshall also losing later that night, things looked very good. On late Friday night I mapped out the 12 teams that needed a loss and five of those games kicked of at noon on Saturday. I flipped back and forth as the afternoon went on, and when they all ended, those five games went 0-5 in favor of BG, and I knew I was in for a long Saturday of college football. Those 12 teams ended up going 3-9 in favor of BG's bowl situation and I could see this coming down the road. Had they at least went 5-7 or better, we'd have been a lock. The ONLY team I fell good about getting an invite over right now is CMU. On paper I feel we are more deserving than WKU and certainly Ohio, but my opinion counts for nothing when it comes to this topic. BG really, really needs at least a split in the Pitt and UConn games and hopefully Georgia Tech falls in the ACC Championship and doesn't get the waiver they are after. Being 8-4 and getting snub for a bowl would hurt bad. Especially if it was because a 6-7 Georgia Tech pushed us aside, or worse yet, a 4-4 MAC team that we beat head-to-head in their own house.Falconfreak90 wrote:Gotta admit I was pretty confident about getting a bid before Saturday's games...now I am sweating it.
