I guess I have found some middle ground on this. Since Adidas chooses not to provide a cost effective brown option, which is their right as a private company, we could make brown more of a secondary color and use orange and white as primary colors in most of our sports. However, in some sports that is not an option. I could care less what color the shorts are for the Volleyball team. There isn't that much material in the first place. In a sport like gymnastics where the uniform adds to graceful lines black helps more than ANY other color available. In that case, to not use black puts us at a competitive disadvantage. In baseball, football, hockey, etc I would rather see us in orange or white with brown used where it makes fiscal sense. If/when we change vendors I would hope the availability of brown at a decent cost would be considered. When it comes to clothing, make what sells. Coaches should be wearing school colors as much as possible but I don't expect them to wear orange suits with brown shirts and a white tie. As far as the player argument, there isn't one. If they want to play, they will wear the uniform. If they don't want to wear the uniform because of its look, then release them from their scholarship and find someone who does! In short, stick to the colors as much as you can and still be fiscally responsible.

I laughed at how the university had the players and coaches promote last nights "blackout", while they stood in the corner & played dumb. Rock solid.

Oh, then proceeded to hand out 250 t-shirts which just happened to be black, yet never promoting the color. Seems like alot of employees were not only shocked, but loved the uniforms on Twitter. Way to get out in front of it.

Why is BGSU doing business with a company that refuses to supply uniforms in our colors? What are the terms of this contract, and who signed it?

To me the solution would be find the company most willing to produce brown and run with it. NFL is Nike now. Cleveland Browns. Hmmmmmmmmm?

I think you missed the rest of the post. A few sentences further I said "If/when we change vendors I would hope the availability of brown at a decent cost would be considered." (please note the prior sarcasm was meant to be taken as a joke) It really doesn't make a difference the terms or who signed the current contract. Unless we are willing to spend the money to get out of it, and that may not be fiscally responsible, then we can only look to make the next contract better. Also, Adidas does not refuse to supply the color brown. It does charge a very high price for brown. Again, it all comes back to fiscal responsibility. We have a finite budget.

Fair enough. This was a good point, by the way:

Men's basketball had a seperate deal with Nike, set up by Dakich I believe. Once it ended (after Orr's second year I believe) they went to adidas like everyone else

I think I've mentioned this black vs Brown issue severeal times thru the years. My son, head Lacrosse Coach at Hudson HS, was the first to tell me that Adidas did NOT carry Brown as a color, at least at that time...He wondered why we stayed with them if they weren't willing to supply OUR colors. Needless to say, I'm opposed to using Black as a substitute for Brown...
I don't want us to become another W. Mich. (Many of you may not recall or know that their colors "used to be" BROWN and gold, similar to Baldwin Wallace College. And I think that Wyoming also uses that brown and gold color scheme too. Don't care for the "shade" of brown they use , but it's out there. And I recently posted about the Cleve. Browns (who have used OUR colors thruout history). Somehow the post got deleted.

I also find it hard to believe that adidas prefers not to make brown jerseys?? They produced our most recent brown football jerseys. They currently produce brown jerseys for the Vancouver Whitecaps of MLS.

Well considering BG chose #10 to put on football jerseys as opposed to actually marketing a certain players number, says alot to me about the people making decisions. Ohio State and Notre Dame use 5, UM uses 16, Toledo 2, and BG chose the year they were established. I know it's a revolving door but come on.

BG football wore brown adidas (05-06?) jerseys in the not distant past.

I think the black was just wanting to wear black, not a brown substitute.
