I was being facetious, of course that would never happen. The comment was meant to point out that these other MAC East schools have not only made good hires, but these other coaches have also won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Those schools would love to see Orr stay at BG for obvious reasons. BG is a sleeping force in the MAC if we could ever get someone in here to do what others have done with our peers.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:While a noble idea, do you really think any of these guys would give away information like that, there is a better chance those AD's will tell GC to hire you, me, or any one else on this board then a quality name that gets us where we want to beBGSU33 wrote:What GC should do is, get in his car and drive to Ohio, then to Kent State, then to Akron, and meet with each of their AD's. Ask them "if you had to hire a men's basketball, coach who would it be?" and go with who they say and in five years we'll win a MAC Tournament and make the NCAA Tournament. Hunter, O'Shea and Groce have taken Ohio there, Waters, Heath and Christian have taken Kent State there (KSU had NEVER been to the NCAA prior to 1999 and has been there five times since!) and Dambrot has gotten Akron there a few times.

He might be out of your price range, but I'm VERY high on Bacari. He's a future star.Flipper wrote:I would take a long look at this guy.....

I would love to see a post by the coaching candidate wizards in here about who might fit. Lamonta Stone?
Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
I seriously hope your joking with the Lamonta Stone next head coach question. He won't even be considered to stay of staff.

the dumbazz doesn't even know the difference between Ohio and Ohio State........guess it didn't work either!
Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
Brady Hoke started up the whole "Beat Ohio" thing. When Michigan beats Ohio State, they don't just beat the football or basketball team. They beat the fans. They beat the whole state of Ohio (minus those of us who despise the school as much as Michigan folks). There's millions of fans of Ohio State who only care about one day a year, and that's the Michigan football game, and beating Ohio involves beating the spirit of those fans for another year. One of Michigan's announcers once said of Ohio Stadium it's filled with 10,000 students and 80,000 truck drivers. Beating Ohio means making those 80,000 truck drivers have to live in misery for a year of dealing with being on the losing side of the rivalry. And the "Beat Ohio" mentality has now transcended to the basketball program.
I personally at first thought it was pretty silly, but now I kinda like it. Michigan fans sure embrace it.
(And FWIW, Michigan fans refer to Ohio University as Ohio University, or The Ohio University, meanwhile Oho State is just Ohio. Just to differentiate ...)

Go Blue!!! (not hockey)
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
Sure got them fired up! They only got down 28-8 to start the game.
Doubt Beilein let him give the halftime speech.

I believe your perception of the real reason of beating the whole State of Ohio is BS. Brady Hoke was being cute and trying to show he is a "Michigan" man. He truly wanted to add this as a dig like Woody used to say "That school up North." I personally know a lot of OU fans that are offended by the remark of "Ohio," and who relished the NCAA BB comeupance that the Wolverines experienced in last year's tournament.
Both sides are full of pompous fans. 80M truck drivers or working class fans is a put down that it is simply a gross overexaggeration. Just as Michigan State's characterization of most Michigan fans as Walmart Wolverines is. I used to be a pretty avid OSU fan (it was in my family history). However, I was always a Falcon first. My ardor for OSU has changed in the past few years as I've gotten older, wiser but I don't have the hatred that some on this board have. Forget the "Little Brother" attitude of some fans and Go Falcons.
Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
I'm sure most of the Ohio kids that Hoke recruited to Ball State were OSU fans at some time in their youth. Was he talking about beating their spirit too?
Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
I read a lot of MGoBlog and have a lot of Michigan fan friends. If ... if you can put up with the eliteness of the MGoBloggers and some of the general BS around there you'll see where I get the "Beat Ohio" explanation. Believe me, big if there. Since I grew up liking Michigan and going to Michigan football games with an older brother there, I can put up with the elitism ... to a certain degree. BG sports and BG fans always come unquestionably first in my book. (I'm also a big Cincinnati fan since I grew up in the area and my folks are both UC alums.)
And I too laughed when Ohio beat Michigan in basketball last year. I picked OU to be a Sweet 16 team so I was pretty happy with that upset. Any day a MAC team knocks a bigger conference team out of a tournament is a good day.

Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
BTW, aside from aforementioned assistant in the video above pumping the M team up for a dead start at Ohio State, I'm guessing a Michigan assistant or two is bound to be a head coach very soon, maybe even next year. Michigan has quietly become very good in the last few years. This year, they are a bad start in Columbus from undefeated and ranked number 1. Trey Burke didn't have a ton of top basketball school offers (according to Rivals there's Cincinnati, Nebraska, Penn State and some others, I've also heard OK State) out of high school but he's looking like an All American type of player right now and was a pre-season All American this year. Beilein has done a heck of a job there and a ton of credit has to go to the assistants. It wouldn't surprise me if he's looking to replace some of those guys pretty soon.

Re: Potential Coaching Canidates???
Anybody remember a guy called Michael Huger? I hear-tell he's got some assistant coaching experience with George Mason and Miami (Fla.). Maybe he could be coaxed into coming back to ol' BG. He would bring an excellent resume as player and asst coach, a recommendation from a name very well known in these parts, and a good recruiting network in NYC and in Europe.
We're on a mission. A mission from GAHD!
