Ticket Purchasing . . . Where is the PROMOTION ????

Post by Falcon Commander »

I'll never understand (well . . . yes I do, but) why the Athletic Dept does not get this information out - like about 2 minutes after the Bowl announcement. Why do we have to get information from John Wagner at the Blade (don't even see this as their job, but Thanks John W.)?
The Dept is always looking for more $$$ and then when there is a chance to get it, they don't promote it. And how might this effect future Bowl invitations? There was even a web site in AZZ that had the BG Athletic Dept name on it that had the Ticketbastard site to buy tickets.
And since, as it's been mentioned on AZZ, you can purchase tickets for the Military attendees as an added bonus that helps them and BG's sales numbers. To me this is a B!G deal and some B!G money for the Dept. Maybe they have something planned for later but I would have hoped for a huge Marketing push prepared for the minute the announcement was released. Just frustrating.
<Rant complete>

Per John W. Falcon Blog: Speaking of tickets, even BG fans who aren't going to the game can help both the school and a good cause. The Military Bowl donates tickets to active-duty troops and their families through a partnership with the USO and USO-Metro.
According to the bowl's web site, over the past two years the Military Bowl has provided 10,000 free tickets to active-duty troops and their families through its partnership with the USO and USO-Metro. If you do not plan to attend the game, please consider buying tickets to donate to those families. If you purchase them through the school web site, you help BG reach its bowl allotment and help military families in the Washington D.C. area attend the game.

My guess is that they wouldn't mind wearing a little orange and brown -- and no black -- to show their thanks! Sorry, couldn't resist.

If BG fans were looking for a place to take a quick holiday vacation, they would be hard-pressed to find a place as interesting as Washington D.C. Click here to view a schedule of events during the team's stay in Washington.
I have had several people tell me that the Military Village and tailgate on the Armory Mall before the game is especially impressive.

It's out there.

Let's see, I've already deleted two e-mails from the Athletic Department about the Military Bowl and ticket sales.

I also saw a link to information on BGSUFalcons.com about the Military Bowl and ticket sales.

And it seems as if every other Tweet I receive on Twitter also tells me how to purchase tickets.

Sort of reminds me of all of the Presidential campaign ads from a few weeks back.

What is all of this banter about? We can buy tickets to a bowl game against a ranked opponent in an amazing city for 10 dollars. For me, 5 dollars. The team had no idea where they were going until well after 8PM. When I visited the athletic website when i got back to my dorm that night, they already had an instant pop up about the bowl game and ticket prices were already announced. I also saw a complete post about tickets this morning. Not sure that there is anything to complain about. Of course they are going to want you to buy tickets through them. Just like every school in the country that made a bowl game will. That is what making a bowl game does, generates money for the school and for the program. Maybe I am missing something, but I see no need to complain about anything. We got selected to a great bowl and you can purchase a ticket for the same price as a pizza.

Same here. The night it was announced all of the social media banners were changed to represent the bowl and I've gotten three emails so far about buying tickets. Plenty of promotion for me.

Plenty here as well, waiting to hear if there will be some sort of bus trip to DC, my car can't handle the drive and my wallet can't handle a plane ticket and hotel.

Interesting that you guys mention all the emails...as I've received NOTHING via email...all info is on BGSU FALCONS.com for that matter, except I did not notice hotel info... (I'm still hoping to stay with my son in Alexandria, Va.)

I've gotten emails via alumni association. No shortage of info. Once I know how many tickets I'll be buying I'll call the athletic ticket office and get them ordered. Then I'll see about donating some to USO for military families.
