NIU has to leapfrog Boise or Boise gets the BCS invite. Leapfrogging Michigan is just a bonus assuming we do leapfrog Nebraska, UCLA, Texas, Kent and Boise.

I do not see NIU getting by Boise though. Boise is the comfortable vote over a MAC team. Plus, Boise has feasted on MAC teams in recent years including this year.

Here's a Breakdown on BC$ money

Post by transfer2BGSU »

The biggest payday in MAC history, works out this way:

• $7 million of the $28.2 million is divided between the five non-BCS conferences (Conference USA, Mountain West, MAC, Sun Belt and WAC).

• Another $7 million is divided into 15 “units” based on conference strength. Because it is the No. 1 ranked non-BCS league, the MAC will receive five of those 15 shares, followed by the No. 2-ranked conference getting four shares, etc.

• The MAC will get $8 million of the remaining $14 million as the participating conference.

• The other $6 million will be split up into those 15 units.

So the way I read it, the MAC gets a quick $15 million of the 28.2 million PLUS five of the 15 units ($400,000 each unit) for an additional $2 million. TOTAL for the Conference is $17 million.

Pretty sure it's up to the conference to disperse the funds as they see fit, but I would be SHOCKED if NIU didn't get a bigger share.

I imagine that they'll get 5-6 million with a million to the other football members.

No matter how they disburse the funds this is a HUGE financial gain for this conference. Where our budgets are this is game changing money. Now let's get a basketball coach with it! :)

Or we could pay our current FB coach a few hundred grand a year more to stick around... :)
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I'd spread it around. Use some to buy out Orr and the rest to up the pay of Clawson and the new Hoops coach.
