Would you be saying that if your Flashes got in? I fully believe NIU can go down there and win, and I would be saying the same thing if Kent had won the MAC. People are sick of watching SEC vs ACC, and those games aren't memorable. What people will remember is Boise beating Oklahoma, Utah beating Bama, and Northern Illinois beating Florida State.

Not surprised by this at all, and thats why SVP and Russillo is my favorite sports talk radio show.

Everyone's favorite Mark May backed NIU last night, said what we've been saying, NIU played by the set rules and was rewarded. I'm so surprised no one has brought that up

Works for yahoo now, meaning no TV for Pat, so no ripping. He isn't good enough to be ripped now that he doesn't appear on TV :-D

I'll admit I was surprised Mark May said some positive things about the situation so I give him kudos for that. I was fully expecting a rant against NIU from him.

As a mild surprise, the guy who covers OSU for the Cleve. PD was VERY complimentary toward NIU and the MAC in general..Don't know how to post the link but I believe it was in yesterday's PD... His name is Doug Lesmereses or something like that. That being said he showed HIS vote (as he does every week) and had NIU at 21 or thereabouts, which I thought was pretty funny given his positive column.

Cap City 7 wrote:I was disappointed in Herbstreit because I had always kind of admired him for being pretty honest about how he sees the state of college football. I live in Columbus and I know he moved out of state supposedly in part because of his unwillingness to toe the party line when it comes to his alma mater. He has been especially critical of the lack of quality in the Big Ten especially compared to the SEC. He took a lot of heat in Columbus because of that. Everyone here expects him to blindly support OSU and the Big Ten and he does not. Of course, part of that could be because ESPN pays him to be objective and give his opinion. I just feel he signalled out Northern and ignored how thin the resumes of Louisville and Wisconsin are.
You have bought the hook, line and sinker. Herbstreit is a shill for ESPN and nothing more. He says what the company TELLS him to say; he does not give his opinion.

ESPN has a vested interest in having the best possible bowl matchups. NIU being one of those, does not serve the best interests of ESPN because it likely won't mean a good viewing audience. I'm sure his bosses told him to trash the system.

As for the heat he took here in Columbus: don't be fooled by that, either. Herbie wanted everyone to think he was a martyr and a victim, and he was forced to move out of town because the fans here were so bad. Not true. Nobody really gave a crap about him.

It was his wife who wanted to move out of town, because she was tired of him embarrassing her with his extra curricular activities.

As time has gone on, Herbstreit's act has become more and more tiresome for most level-headed football fans. Perhaps those highlights he puts on his hair have seeped into his roots and are now rotting his brain.

Jesse Palmer has been a d-bag since the announcement. Saying NIU strength of schedule was terrible and their only BCS win was against Kansas and they lost to a weak Iowa team.

Herbstreit is a moron. Period.

And let's not give Mark May a free pass. Yes, he did say that NIU simply followed the rules. But he also said they didn't deserve to be there.

I watch live sports on ESPN, nothing more. Not SportsCenter, not the halftime or pregame shows, none of it. I loathe it more each day.

Funny thing about Palmer....the ex Fla. QB has almost always had nice things to say about BG in particular and the MAC in general, unlike several of his would be "experts". Is ESPN deliberately trying to downplay this game in hopes of? what?
Or is it a reverse psychology thing...this team is terrible doesn't belong, but I'll bet you watch to see if we're right. :-k

So Herbstreit, Palmer and May all singing from the same hymnal now. Guess they all got ESPN's memo to trash the game and NIU's selection. The first letter in ESPN stands for "Entertainment". Don't buy the act -- because that's what it all is.

They went with ESPN because in 1979 there was already an SPN....I used to watch SPN from time to time. Bucky Dent had a talk show on it....I wonder what Bucky thinks of NIU breaking into the BCS?

...was one of the worst starting OSU QB's of the last 3 decades.

...probably wouldn't even got a scholarship on this years NIU team.

Jesse's a tool, but his dad's gotta be a great guy.

So THAT'S the reason for his previous high regard and comments for BG! Didn't know this, but very interesting.
