I feel like all this pro MAC talk is like being on a sinking ship that you really love but that is slowly being swept out to sea, and deciding to stay with the ship and rationilzing reasons why it's smart to do so, because emotionally you are tied to the ship. Would you turn down a Big East offer (that will never come for BG, but hypothetically) for the MAC? What about conference usa?

I didn't know BG was already in the Big East, your descripition of how you see that MAC sounds more like the Big East then the MAC. If the MAC is a sinking ship (which I don't think it is) why would anyone want to jump another sinking ship. The Big East is no longer the Big East, it is just that in name only, they should change the conference name and when the basketball only schools leave they can take the name back and try to restore some glory to it.Globetrotter wrote:I feel like all this pro MAC talk is like being on a sinking ship that you really love but that is slowly being swept out to sea, and deciding to stay with the ship and rationilzing reasons why it's smart to do so, because emotionally you are tied to the ship. Army, Middle Tennessee St and Marshall would all be interesting adds.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:I didn't know BG was already in the Big East, your descripition of how you see that MAC sounds more like the Big East then the MAC. Western Kentucky adding Petrino definitely would make them an interesting team in the league.

The MAC is far from a sinking ship. Hell it's more stable than just about any conference out there. All that realignment is killing other conferences but the MAC seems to be doing just fine.

The MAC isn't a sinking ship...we're a Duck Boat. We can go on the water with what we have and be damn happy or we can go out on land and try to see if anything interests us in terms of expansion

I think the Big East is done now with regards to football. It will be interesting to see where the remaining football schools go now that the 7 basketball schools are gone - and are taking the Big East name with them (rumored).
This could ultimately be the beginning of the end of conference alignment.

What is the Big East right now? Who doesn't that include?

Nice link. I'd like to see something like that be created; it wouldn't be a "BCS" Conference I don't think, but it does make some sense and could provide some stability.
Re: Tulane and ECU to Big East
The Big East? Shouldn't that be changed to "The Big All Over The Freaking Place"?Globetrotter wrote:"The proposed members would be UConn, Cincinnati, South Florida, Memphis, Temple, Boise State, San Diego State, UNLV, New Mexico and possibly BYU or Central Florida."

The Big East will be the basketball schools that are breaking away. They own the name apparently. Don't know what the new conference will be called. "The Real CUSA" maybe?

There is that, which is possible, though it could be a leverage move by the two to get the ACC to invite themFalcon137 wrote:Or...the tip of the iceberg.bgdodgeball4 wrote:Good call.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:If I was those Big East basketball schools I would have already said screw you guys, we are leaving this Conference USA mess, and are taking the Big East name with us to save it. As for the Big East hoops only schools they will likely be adding schools as well. Schools they are rumored to be interested that I've seen include Xavier, Dayton, Butler, St. Louis, Creighton, Richmond, VCU, George Washington, and George Mason. This is all far from being over
