2013-2014

Players I am excited about
1. Richaun Holmes: Shotblocking extraordinaire. Will likely finish as the best ever at BG and is currently playing like 15 minutes a game. Best case scenario: his athleticism transfers to the offensive side and we have a first team ALL-MAC performer. Worst Case scenario:he is a terrific shot blocker who protects the lane the next 2 years.

2. Zach Denny: An outside shooter who even if he is limited to just that will fit in nicely with 2 solid big men in Holmes and Black. If he isn't a complete hole ont eh defensive side of the ball I expect him to see major minutes at the 2. Best case scenario: is that he can play the one and is our next PG. Worst case: he can't play defense well enough and is just a spot up shooting option at the 2.

Players I am excited about but a bit leery
1. JD Tisdale: I loved his video but my enthusiasm is tempered by what I have read in regards to him being a top player in Michigan and the few recruits from his area. Best Case:Playmaking pass first point guard that becomes the focus of the team. Worst Case:Daryl Clements.

2. Cam Black:Solid shot blocker, solid around the basket nothing special physically except for size. Best Case: Develops a nice offensive game and combines with Holmes to create the most feared defensive frontcourt in the MAC. Worst Case:Some coach decides that its either him or Holmes instead of both at the same time.

3. Jehvon Clarke:Great athlete who can score in bunches but is turnover prone. Best Case:We need scoring next year and in that role he takes off doing things to score that we have not seen since Keith McCleod. Worst Case:He becomes a tough play because his turnovers outweigh his scoring.

4. Chauncey Orr:Solid role player on a decent team. Does everything ok. Best Case: Develops into a capable SF who helps the offense to move, is in the right place on D and can score when needed. Worst Case: Leaves when his dad is let go.

Players I am leery about but a little excited

1.Craig Seeley: Tons of athleticism/potential very little polish. Best Case: Backup PF and decent role player who can run in a high speed offense. Worst Case: See current. Sporadic PT and ability.

2.Garrett Mayleben: Incomplete but was recruited by the leaders in our conference. HS numbers leave a great deal to be desired. Best Case:Active faceup 4 who can be a 3rd or 4th scorer.

3. Anthony Henderson:Wasn't a big time recruit but scored in bunches in HS and has flashed scoring and shooting ability here. Is being given more and more PT. Best Case: Scoring shows up after C and C airball factory leave the hole. Worst Case: Poor man's Daryl Clements.

4. Spencer Parker: Seen oddly sporadic moments burning what I beleive would have been a redshirt despite his Prep year. Looked like a decent glue/utility guy from HS video. Was the MVP of his prep team full of college recruits. Best Case:Develops into a Calhoun type player. Worst Case:Never sees the floor at BG.

Players I have extreme doubts about
1. Desmond Rorie. He is big. Best Case: Solid Marc Larsonesque backup big who can use his presence in the paint on D. Worst Case:Never sees the floor at BG and transfers.

2. Josh Gomez. He is big. Best Case: Solid Marc Larsonesque backup big who can use his presence in the paint on D. Worst Case:Never sees the floor at BG and transfers.

You keep using Daryl Clements as your worst case scenarios. Daryl Clements would be the 2nd best player on this team and was far more consistent than anyone on this roster. Give me him anyday over the guys we roll out now at the 2 or 3.

To me Clements was an average guy who had decent size and could do everything ok but nothing great. He would never be awful because of his physical traits but wasnt ever outstanding at anything.
