Centennial Celebration??

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

With the BGSU 100th birthday coming up in 5 years, I just wondered if anyone knew if there were any special events in the planning stages yet? I know it's still a ways off, but you can't start thinking about this kind of event too early. I hope they have some big-time events!

I think I saw something about some committe named BG@100 or something. Not sure if this is that group or what. Maybe transfer2 can help us out.

The is a sign outside an office on Wooster that says "BG@100". It is next to DQ, across from Dairy Mart. Don't know what they are doing though.

They're putting a statue of me in front of University Hall, but I don't think they captured my "essence", so I might ask them to try again.

The BG@100 office is, from what I understand, the transfer of the university mainframe. This includes bursar, financial aid, and many other offices. Now I may have been mistaken or heard wrong. transfer2BGSU would know more than I. I do know there is a fundraising program that is in the silent phase. It is called "Building Dreams, The Centenial Campaign for BGSU." I will try to get more information on both.

That was the one where they DID capture my "essence", though... or at least my good side. :D

(Good one, though!)

BG@100 is for the switchover to the new PeopleSoft computer system we are moving to over the next few years.

Actually, I have absolutely no idea at all as to what plans are up for the Centennial Celebration.

So I defer to FalconFan1 (nothing like passing the buck).

It does from one side. Walk towards the Union more and look back at it, you'll see what I meant

Why that sculpture is right by the University Seal always perplexed me. Go figure.

funny story about the Univ. seal... during one of the preview day tours I gave, I was standing on the seal talking about all it's superstitions and what all, and after I told the one about kissing a chick while standing on the seal you get married or whatever, I asked for volunteers. Fortunately most of the group eventually got a chuckle out of it, though there were a couple slightly dropped jaws on parents in the group.

Metzger has a very interesting picture of himself standing next to the sculpture that I've always enjoyed
Not to be confused with Poptartin
