Slow and Steady can win the race

Post by psc2009 »

Coach Bergeron was nice enough to give me some time after the Michigan game last week. I've got to say that I'm quite impressed with his ambition and focus. He realizes that turning BG around isn't a sprint, it's a marathon with some checkpoints along the way.

Here is TMD's write up of the chat. Great things are in store for Bowling Green hockey.

100% agree with your comment. Great things ARE in store for Bowling Green hockey. Bergeron's message has been the same since the beginning. He is VERY foused on what he believes needs to be done to build a championship program here. Now you hear the players saying the same things. They are building a brand and that brand will be Bowling Green Hockey, with all the high expectations that go with a championship team. People will know what to expect from this program and players will know what is expected of them when they agree to come here. It truly is a work in progress and we really are getting there!

Personal Note: "historical doormat?" Really??? Not crazy about your choice of words there. The HISTORY of the program is HUGE (Mason, York, CCHA's FIRST National Championship, 2 Hobey winners, Stanley Cup players and coachers, NHL players and coaches, etc...)!! Wouldn't have hurt to mention that very, very rich history. There is a reason the fund raising program was called "Bring Back the Glory." :-D

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Yeah, I know where you're coming from, but you know me, I simply CANNOT pass on making comments when it comes to the hockey program. :-D

That's a fair point, and I didn't mean to undercut BG's history. The Falcons do have a long, rich history, even if it's not the most recent. I should have worded that better.
