Class of 61 wrote:"SHORT on numbers?" 3327 folks for a women's BB game on a Sunday afternoon? Yeah, it doesn't match the overall crowds that UT can draw...but honestly, aren't we comparing a large city vs small town? I was there for the whole weekend...and after suffering thru the guys game, despite the last seconds win, I was looking forward to the women's game....Neither team impressed offensively, but it was absolutely BRUTAL in the paint! Don't know if I've ever seen so many people on the floor (literally) as in this game.
For what it's worth, Naama is one heck of a player; without her on Sunday, it was a totally different game. 23pts. yes, but some neat assists and even an outstanding block on a 6' wing player's shot. She DOES get away with a lot of traveling calls, perhaps respect from officials?
Definitely more than anyone else in the MAC would draw but I kept hearing sellout from BG fans and I thought UT would represent even more than we did. I just think about a thousand people missed one heck of a game. That MAY have been Shafir's first career block-that was something to see. ( its not but there haven't been many).

Shafir gets the headlines (rightly so...she's a fine player) but that Dortch is a real pain in t he ass
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

ESPN magazine has a lengthy article on the game comparing the rivalry to Stanford-Cal. Focuses on Naama Shafir but says plenty about the rivalry and how brutal this game was. Freak, don't know if you were there or watched on tv but your comment was dead-on. It was a scrum in the post both ways. Yo Richardson takes ONE shot? Are you kidding me? Flowers makes two of a dozen or so? That's two All-MAC types contributing bssically no offense. The defensive intensity was amazing. Crowd was short on numbers for one this big but pretty much got into it. Great game for TV.
Apologies if I'm missing an obvious play on someone's name, but I have absolutely no idea who 'Flowers' is.

I agree on attendance; the crowd was good for a Sunday afternoon with NFL playoffs and Ohio State-Michigan men's hoops on TV, but I was hoping for a sellout. Still, though, what a great rivalry, and what intensity for an early-to-mid-January game!

I can only plead momentary lunacy. I may have been thinkink about poor shooting and channeled former Falcon John Flowers, I don't know. I meant Rogers and I should SEND her some flowers to apologize. Her play certainly is worthy of remembering and her name should be as well. My apologies to Ms. Rogers- the war she waged with Richardson was epic.
