If he has a contract with us he can't just walk away....there's usually a penalty for breaking the deal on either side that gets smaller as the deal goes on.

Glad to hear DC has a new deal in place. I really like the direction he seems to have this program headed. I also am glad to hear the Field House is getting new turf. That was discussed about four years ago and didn't happen, so it's nice to hear it's finally getting done. I am also eager and excited to see what plans we come up with for the stadium renovation.

Flipper, the king at stating the obvious. All we were saying is that the athletic department wouldn't have to pay a large sum of change (Compared to if they had to buyout the contract) if Clawson were to leave. People were getting it confused with having to buyout a contract of a coach that was being fired. They are 2 completely different scenarios and call for two completely different actions.

Yes, I am aware that Clawson cannot leave with nothing happening at all.

No s**t..you seemed a little confused about the whole concept so I thought I'd explain it to you. We can cover traffic lights and sippy cups tommorrow because I get the feeling someone's had a really busy day and it's making him cranky....

LOL. My bad man. Wasn't trying to get you all worked up. I should've been more direct with the sarcasm.

Just thought you and some of the thread was confusing a buyout for a coach being fired and one for a coach that decides to leave before his contract expires. They are completely different. Ydfalcon and I were just trying to point that out. I Must have misinterpreted what you said.

I wonder how the faculty feel about this.

Love this....our APR scores have never been higher and we don't have kids showing up in the police blotter like the past. Plus, we are poised for a huge year in '13. If and when DC gets the big school offer, so be it. He deserves this and so does Coach Elko.

I believe this really shouldn't be a concern of the faculty since DC is paid our of the athletic department budget.

I do think, however, the faculty is a little concerned about Flipper being a dick. I think they have a petitionn going around to verify the concern.

In general, I don't think the faculty pays a whole lot of attention to the salary of coaches. I worked at a BCS school in athletics for a couple of years so the the pay discrepancy there was MUCH higher that at a school like BG. There are a few professors who just hate the idea of collegiate athletics (I had a few in my time at BG) but there is going to be a disconnect between their salaries and I think people realize that their positions aren't threatened because of how much a coach is paid.

With that said, I'm really happy with this extension. It provides the recruits with some security and Clawson earned this with the way he has improved the depth and overall image of the program.
