ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University officials said that the campus was closed on Wednesday afternoon because of a search for a man considered armed and dangerous.
Just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Ohio University Police reported an armed robbery at the Station Street Apartments.
Police said that a woman was robbed of $5 in the parking lot of building 5 in at the Station Street Apartments at about 9:20 a.m.
An armed and dangerous individual was reported fleeing the scene and heading to the direction of Stocker Center/Oxbow trail area, according to school officials.
An alert to OU students told them to watch for a 30- to 35-year-old black male, just over 6 feet tall. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and carrying a handgun.
The campus was closed shortly after noon, university officials confirmed.
OU students were asked to return to their residences, and all non-essential employees should return home unless notified by the school.

Wow...seems like a bit of an overreaction.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

It certainly wouldn't have been a problem at the
Stroh with the security there!

All for $5.00.
Re: OU - EMU game postponed
Speaking of postponed, has anyone seen a recent "Ask the Fundraiser", since basketball season started? Would love a follow up question to be asked regarding the "direction" of the program.
Re: OU - EMU game postponed
I wonder if EMU will be compensated for its expenses. After all the team did show up yestetday. So they had their normal expenses. As far as the EMU fans, heck they only draw about 1000 at home so I don't think many made the trip.

It's interesting seeing something like this in comparison to what would happen in Columbus.

And if something happened to students on campus because of this person, they'd be criticized for not being overly cautious. With all that's happened recently, they had no choice but to cover all bases.Flipper wrote:Wow...seems like a bit of an overreaction.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: OU - EMU game postponed
I get what you're saying...but the cops had stopped "actively" looking for the guy by about noon. It's Athens....what else is there to do? If they were that disinterested, how much of a threat was there?
If they reacted like this to gun crimes at every college, the University of Detroit and UIC would never get to play...

Re: OU - EMU game postponed
Maybe we need someone with a BB gun to run around BG campus on basketball nights. Cancel the game. Spare our fans. We have seen enough of this pathetic product you call Div 1 basketball.

Suggesting someone run around campus with any kind of gun is idiotic. Shame on you, sir.

I agree, the tongue was in cheek (I assume), and while I did chuckle it also made me wince.
