I do believe a fairly strong architectural line can be drawn between the Moore Musical Arts Center, the Student Recreation Center, the Perry Field House and the Sebo Center.

I also tend to believe that BGSU's newer buildings do more to define us architecturally than does Old Campus, as cohesive and traditional as it might be.

And I don't think the relative youth of our architecture is anything to be ashamed of. The Jerome Library is a fantastic, landmark building, one that rises far above the common late-60s mistake of an enormous, little-used concrete plaza.

When I was first touring here with my dad, who also went here, he told me that each builiding is shaped differently on purpose, and look like a certain shape from the air. I dunno if its true or not, but I find the architecture to be one of the nicer features of the campus.

The only building I know of that is supposed to look like something is the Rec. It's supposed to look like a falcon from the sky.

Also, the Moore Musical Arts Center is supposed to look a bit like a piano (although I've always found it hard to see).

Jerome is in the shape of five books -- which, at the time it was built, was the number of colleges at BGSU.

The Student Services building was to look like a slide carousel. I've heard tour guides say this is because this building is supposed to "revolve" around students. A more likely reason is that they imagined further expansion would push BGSU's center of gravity to this building, with campus "revolving" around it.

An interesting note about Student Services: the windows on the ground level are removable, and the forum-like steps leading downward can be used for seating for events such as a musical show or mass meetings.

It was used very infrequently for this purpose during the early 1990s, but I think this was more common in the days immediately after it was built (1968). I seem to recall reading old news clippings that indicated liberal student activists routinely met outside Student Services in the hours and days after the Kent State shootings.

Actually, I believe that's an urban legend. (Or, well, BG isn't exactly in an urban area, but you know what I mean.) That's what all the tour guides tell students, but t'ain't true.

Maybe the MMAC big shots started spreading the rumor to cover their embarrassment at not having enough funding to build the planned amphitheater-type area in what ended up as the courtyard.

I have a feeling the SAC won't end up in the same dire financial straits. :)

MMC shape as a piano is a misconception Schad.

The misconception started with the number of practice rooms: 88.

The inside of the MMC has a stage. Above the stage is "the worm" which was originally suppose to be made of glass. Budget constrains put the Kaibosh on that dream. So, we now have steel with some nasty looking art on the inside.

Back in my day the MMC had brown carpeting through and the worm actually had the carpeting going all the way up the walls.

The color scheme of the MMC was the primary colors of green, orange, blue, yellow. It was fun, creative, and intense. Now, the MMC is just a building with tile and white walls. :vom:

The Jerome is the look like shelved books. The rec center looks like a falcon. That's about all.

I love the design of the SEBO. It reminds me of the older photo of what the Doyt was SUPPOSE to look like. I love it.

Was just wondering if we were going to put in Field Turf when the new SAC is built or any other renovations will be done to the Doyt. Looking at the sketches it looks like field turf is going to be added as well as a new seating section on the NE side of the stadium (connecting the East stands to the SAC)

The more I look at the SEBO drawings, the more I wonder if the inspiration came from the original intended design of the stadium.

I can't find the image right now, but if y'all remember, it has a 50's/60's futurist design to it. I look at the SEBO and see that design.

Does anyone agree?

I've got the image somewhere, but I don't know that it looks that much like the original design, aside from the large sweeping curves. The original stadium design looked like something out of the Jetsons, and as far as I've read, Spacely Sprockets hasn't signed any contracts to work on SEBO...

It does have a certain Japanese Tea Room (soon to be called the Seattle Style) feel to it like the SEBO. But if that were built, I don't think 1/3 of the seats have a view of the field. Architects have been struggling with individuality since the 50's.

Bring back Richardsonian any day.

I'm thinking the artist didn't bother to get the grass right.

If they put Field Turf in... that would be very ungood.

The most disturbing thing I've found in this thread and by looking at the pictures is that someone actually blamed our loss at Toledo on the amount of endzone noise that our guys had to deal with??? WHAT?!?!?!

I'm sorry I guess I don't recall the number of adjustments that our coaching staff made after halftime . . . oh that's right it was ZERO . . . and how many times did Jelani and Mayberry get burnt in single coverage . . . TOO MANY TO COUNT!

Those are the reasons we lost against Toledo.
