This year Louis Orr's team is 7-13 overall, 0-8 on the road, have lost the last two games by a combined 26 points, are averaging 2.023 fans per game and just caught a glimpse last night of what a quality program in the MAC looks like in Akron and our fearless leader has this to say in his press conference as reported in the Toledo Blade:
Coach Orr said the Falcons have no choice but to keep pushing forward, starting with Saturday’s home game against Ball State.
“This is an opportunity for people collectively and individually to lead,” he said. “We’ll bounce back.”
"We'll bounce back????????" I nearly spit out my coffee this morning when I read this.
"This is an opportunity for people to lead????"
Well at least he has this right! It is an opportunity for SOMEONE to be hired who can LEAD, MOTIVATE and RECRUIT and do something other than shrug shoulders and clap hands and act like things are "swell."
I sat in the 5th row last night and spent most of my time watching Orr on the sidelines. Here are some adjectives that come to mind: disinterested, complaisant, lethargic, lost, defeated, confused, did I say disinterested? And "nice."
That's right, "nice." He seems like a nice man and If I was a player I'd be fairly content knowing that he's never going to "get after me." He's never going to give me a good "tongue lashing" for my substandard play. I'm going to be able to simply play at a basic level and never get challenged to push for more, and perhaps that sums up this entire program and more specifically what is soooooooo wrong with it.
Below average is good enough from the top to the bottom. I've seen great coaches demand more than a player thinks he can give and more often than not kids at this age respond!
Can you imagine what Keith Dambrot would have looked like on the sidelines last night had his team played like ours did? When below average is acceptable then below average is what we are going to get.
So very, very disappointing!

Re: Quote from the "Leader" of this program
I remember during the 2010-2011, Orr said 30 games into the season that the team needed to find leaders. Scott Thomas, Dee Brown, and how many others had played for 3 seasons and Lou hadn't developed a leader? Lou, your job is to either develop a leader, or recruit a natural leader. Nate Miller, natural leader. Crawford and Calhoun, not leaders. The ship was sinking as soon as Nate Miller left campus, and Rorie, Gomez, and all these other 7ppg high school players aren't going to save it. Combine Lou with a staff of guys who nobody else wants and this is what you get.

Re: Quote from the "Leader" of this program
Commets from Chauncey Orr following the game...
"That was the story of the game: They got up on us, and we retreated. That's why we got our butts kicked.”
“Sometimes [teams] don’t like [it when times] are tough,” he said. “People talk about trials and tribulations building character, but it only builds [character] if you don’t quit.
“We have to be able to handle ‘hard,’ and we have to be able to handle ‘tough.’ We have to keep fighting. And we didn’t have that [in this game].”
At least his son seems to get it.... Should a SO be making these kind of comments when there are four SR's on the roster? Isn't it their job to crack the whip...or are they too busy heaving up bricks to notice what thei teammates are up to?

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I also liked what Dambrot said. Calhoun and Crawford have to be great for BG to win.
Re: Quote from the "Leader" of this program
Have to agree with Dambrot...the rest of the team can do almost nothing on a night to night basis. The only way we win is if two of the most inconsistent, selfish, headcase players I've watched at BG both show up on the same night. It's exactly what I bitched about last year...you'll never make a run relying on such inconsistent players.
I have to say, as a big Orr hater, the version of him that I've seen the past couple home games has been pleasant. He's a MUCH more useful player when he actually attacks on offense instead of participating in the Crawford/Kraus game of catch around the perimeter.
